I just finished an engine out major and have started to drive the car. Anyway as I continue to check everything out I found a problem. No rear brakes. The pedal and front brakes work perfect. The left rear bleeds like expected. No Brakes on the left rear though? The right rear is getting no fluid. Pulled the right rear caliper and it is not stuck and is smooth. Pumped the brakes with the right rear line disconnected from the Caliper and no fluid.

I think I know the problem. There is some kind of valve (check valve? - but then once you put brakes on they would turn loose?) that goes in the brake line between the master cyclinder and the left rear. I opened it up to disconnect the brake lines when pulling the engine. I am not sure what this valve is. Ideas and does anyone have an exploded diagram of it to see if I put it together wrong?

Still the left and right rear brakes just T off the same line? I am thinking the valve is only letting a little fluid in... comments welcome?

I pulled the valve off that I suspected as the problem then pumped the brakes - no fluid to the back of the car. Looking at the brake diagram in the service manual that valve is the "Breaking force regulator" and it is feed directly from the master cyclinder. I guess it has to be the master cyclinder. That looks like a lot of work. Anyway to be sure before jumping in to it?

Is their anyway the ABS system could interfere with just basic fluid nd brake operation with the key and engine off?

    Thanks in advance...

On the Mondial-T, the brake reservoir also feeds the clutch slave cylinder. Are you sure you hooked that back up correctly and don't have any leaks? My old Mondial-T actually had a casting defect in the gearbox housing and was leaking fluid into the gearbox - a Ferrari DIY saint reworked the system for me to bypass the failed area. I would hope this failure was extremely rare so I'm not saying you have the same issue.

I've heard it can be hard to bleed all air out of the system. Someone once recommended jacking up the back of the car to bleed the clutch hydraulics, but I don't have any direct experience with that.

To get fluid out of my rear calipers, I turned the ignition key to Position II (Run, not Start) with a Motive powerbleeder pumped up to 14psi and connected to the master reservoir.

I opened one of the two bleed nipples on the right rear caliper, and then I had to pump my brake pedal a few times until I heard the ABS pump kick on (hence, why it is important to have the key on).

After that, plenty of brake fluid out of all nipples on all calipers!

    It was the saint.

    stavri,

try this but timing is everything. you need a friend at the brake pedel. You tell him to pump the brake fast in 1/2 second intervals and he counts out loud 1-2-3-4-5-6 as he pumps the brakes. Then he hold the pedel to the flor at 6 and you open the bleeder 1/4 a turn for 1 second then cut it off and the air and fluid will shoot out fast. He lets up the pedel and Repeat this until very little air comes out. Now bleed two man convensionally. What this does is move trapped air by getting the fluid moving like rocking your car out of the snow reverse/first gear reverse/first gear. Get it?

Yes, and there are none better. I'm still very grateful. Thanks again.
