    Weird shifter question. I drove a 308 today that was great from 1st to second to what I thought was 3rd but when shifting to 4th the engine tached up like I was downshifting! As I kept driving it almost felt like third and 4th we're reversed in position. Can this be?

    You might still be getting 2nd (inside the gearbox) when you move the lever into 4th (in the shift gate) if the (rubber) silent block bushings in the shift linkage are rotten -- just a thought...

    I'll take a look at that, just seems strange. I'll start at the shifter and work my way back, it sure doesn't feel sloppy otherwise except for some small amount of grinding into second when its cold. I was hoping a Redline transfusion would take of that. The gates must be really close together for that to happen.
