I have an 85 Mondi QV with a weird issue...When I accelerate, I get a whistle sound. At first, I thought it was a vacuum leak. After further investigation, I pulled off the air filter and realized the noise was coming from the fuel injection "flap" that opens when I hit the accelerator...

It only happens at the beginning of the acceleration range. In other words, when the engine reaches a certain level, the sound stops.

    ANY IDEAS?

Yea, the noise is clearly from the air intake flap on the fuel distributor...The car has a stainless steel exhaust, not a factory one.

    Thanks for the try..

If you are referring to the 5" dia round aluminum disk visible when the air cleaner is removed, mounted horizontal in the inlet throat to the fuel distributor, it is known as the air-flow sensor. It becomes deflected downward with increasing air flow, metering the fuel in the distributor.

It may be off center at small deflections or loose causing the whistle. With engine off touch it gently to see that it's not loose. It is a delicate part of the injection system left to experts to adjust.

You might fill in your profile with the 1985 Mondi stuff which helps pinpointing issues.
