Does the oil look like that or is it just collecting around the top of the tank?

Looks like you need to get out there and drive that car!! If the oil on the dipstick looks fine, it's just condensation from not being driven much.

It can be if there is a lot of it and mixed in with the oil. The last car I saw with cream foam oil was a cracked block.

That looks more greenish yellow than cream color which leads me to it being Prestone coolant (the green stuff). I had to the clean crankcase vent hoses on my 348 at least once a year they always seemed to have that creamed color moisture/slop in them. I would pull the vent hoses and check to see what is in there. Have not had that problem with the vent hoses on the 355 but the design of the vent system is different

I believe I may have had a similar experience with my 348, however I don't believe it was that dark of a yellow, it was white with a very tiny tint of yellow. It does look the same but not quite as thick as what you have. I got my car in October 2008, however did not drive it other than bringing it home after purchasing it. The car hadn't been driven much the year before I got it, maybe 1000-1500 miles from April 2007 until October 2008. The car was in Portland Oregan then, so that will give you an idea of the climate it was in before. I live in London, Ontario, Canada, which is exactly 2 hours east of Detroit Michigan and 2 hours west of Toronto Ontario, so our climate would be akin to Detroit which is cold winters and hot humid summers. The car sat in my garage from October 2008 until I changed the oil in April 2009. We had a very cold winter this year, and I started it up and ran it for about half hour to 45 minutes about 4 or 5 times total all winter - approx once every 4 weeks. When I was getting the oil changed, the mechanic pointed this out to me and said it was moisture. He wiped it away with a rag and suggested I drive the car for about a half hour without the dipstick in to get rid of the moisture, so that is what I did and it seemed to have cured the problem. He also mentioned that when he was draining the oil from the sump water came out then the oil. I have checked the oil on a few occasions and there is no sign of moisture.

Again, I am not sure if this is the same thing that you are experiencing, but as I mentioned, other than the colour itself it does look awfully close to what I saw in my oil tank.

Hope this helps, and let me know what you find. I will check one more time in the next few days as it is starting to warm up here and I will let you know what I find.

I checked my oil tank twice three times in the last week after some decent driving and it is bone dry, no condensation whatsoever. Hope your problem is solved.

    cheers
