Speaking of the Isa. It has made the news lately.........for ALL the wrong reasons.:eek:

They are talking about class action here against the Mines.:eek:

Has anyone seen it on the news? A woman had her child lead blood tested and the kid had VERY high lead levels. She has since contacted a Lawyer in Brisbane, who is now suing the company Xstrata. She lives here and she was in the local newspaper 2 days ago, calling out to all parents to have their kids blood lead levels checked and if they are high, to sue the company with her.

There was a small article in yesterdays paper, saying that people have been contacting the same Lawyer in Brisbane and telling him that their children have learning difficulties probably due to the high lead levels here ect....ect....

They are all jumping on the bandwagon to sue Xstrata. It stated in the newspaper the woman who started this crap is seeking $1 mill in damages.:eek:

lead poisoning is very insidious, it can take 20 years before any symptoms will be noticed and then it is too late.

Call me cynical, but surely if you were living somewhere like Mt Isa, which pretty much exists because of the mining (doesn't it?) surely you'd be aware of the risks involved in bringing up kids there??? Sheesh. :(

I live on a main road - maybe I should sue the RTA for subjecting me to all the fumes and crap I breathe in - NOT! I have a choice, and I choose to live here, therefore I accept the downsides along with the good stuff. ;)

I am SO OVER people not taking responsibility for their own actions. If I fall over on a footpath (which I have done, many times <how embarrassment>) I kinda figure it is my fault for not looking where I was going! (Yeah, I'm a bit of a klutz). :p

It's going to be interesting how this pans out as the mine has already admitted being a very high emitter of lead - so obviously they think they can beat any law suit on the grounds of people already knew about it or that the lead is present aside from the mine?

The issue of lead at Mt Isa is so well known that the mine is specifically excluded from having to comply with normal environmental standards (not something I agree with - was put into place by good old Joh).

which may explain why someone was arrested for trying to shoot him while I was working there in '73-74, the guy was caught on top of the ATC tower with a gun waiting for Joh

Once my body stopped shedding the extra lead it naturally accumulates in places like that I left,
