I assume most of you know the problem I just had with my 348 spider if not here is a run down. I was on a trip over the weekend the car ran perfect most of the way until around the 3/4 mark of the trip, we take off and drove aggressive for a good 20 min quickly eating up the road, when we couldn't see anyone else behind us anymore we slowed down and thats when I noticed I had power loss ****!! nothing major but noticeable. We soon arrive at the meeting spot and I stop for gas, fill up, start her up and now smoke and rough idle like I was running on 6 cylinders.

Now I asked the Brotherhood and we came to the conclusion I over filled the oil just slightly and after the high rev 20 min run I sucked oil in my intake. This made sense as I did top up the oil the night before and quite possibly didn't check it when it was up to operating temp.
Today I pulled all the plugs, only one was heavy with oil the rest had very little if any at all. I cleaned the intake which had a little oil, nothing in my air filter, cleaned the plugs and got a new one for the bad one. I purged the plug holes best I could reinstalled and she fired right up. She runs ok but not great I thought I had to burn off the remainder in my intake but even after a 20 min Idle and a quick run she is still smoking and feels like it is running on 6 or 7 cylinders. I also checked my oil and it was almost non existent in my reservoir, but the oil pressure was good.

So it is definitely not an oil overfill but there is oil getting into the #1 piston also in my intake ???????? Is it a seal, a cylinder ring, Opinions please.

Here are some pics of the plugs and intake.

Hard to see in the pictures but from here...those plugs look horrible and, to me, reconfirm the diagnosis. All of then should look like #1 with a light brown powdery coating. Did you put those back in or replace them. If new ones installed, yank them to look again now. Vacuum lines can hold oil forever. If over fill was the case, your gonna need to perform an Italian Tuneup to clear the system. That may include repeated plug de-fouling. ALso consider that a blast of oil through the intake is going to mess up the MAF and other sensors. try a can of MAF cleaner and an ECU reset. BTW, Getting any ECU codes?

Hard to see due to pic clarity but the plugs look wasted to me too. The car can't and won't run right right with fouled plugs period! Any car will show it's A#$ if it has bad plugs. I am suprised you had 6 good holes by the looks of those plugs but maybe the pics make them look worse than they are. They look wet and either running very rich or oil soaked.

I'd check compression and replace the plugs if that's OK. Make sure the oil is at the correct level...that can cause smoke if it's too full. Hope it's an easy fix...don't dive in thinking it's a major issue until you check the easy and obvious stuff first. A compression check is your friend at this point. You'll have good idea of what's going on inside after you have the readings. Keep us posted and good luck with it.

Those plugs are toast. You need to replace all of them. But that worst plug is not a good sign, that didn't just happen on your trip, it's been building up carbon for a while. You need to get a compression test done ASAP, and also a leakdown test if possible. Hopefully it will be OK, but something isn't right.

Have you cleaned out the vent hoses at all? I mean the ones that run from the back of the cam covers to the lower section of the air filter housing. Those are the ones that are likely to have a lot of oil in them, and you will continue to blow out smoke until those hoses are clean.

I'm also very concerned about your statement that the oil level in the reservoir is "almost non-existent". If you're sure it was at the correct level after your trip, and it's significantly low now (using the correct method to check it), and it isn't leaking onto the ground, then you have a bigger problem than we hoped.

    Again, GREAT advice Jeff! :D:D

Id replace ALL the plugs Roberto!! You can clean the old ones till the cows come home mate and the engine will still not run 100%. ;);)

The one plug that is really fouled up has me very worried! It looks like oil/crud has been building up on it for a while now. :(:(

Do a compression and leak down test ASAP!! I have a feeling you have valve guide issues on that pot.:eek:

Do those checks and let us know how you go mate. :):)

Just noticed that some have wire adapter caps (Lady shaped tips) and some don't (plain threaded)...is there a story there? I'm hoping you removed some prior to the picture. If not, that could easily be an answer to the whole problem, poor contact. You might find the missing adapters in the plug wire boot.

Thanks you two compression test will be done tomorrow, my mechanic is making a house call for me just to double check. But I have a bad feeling it is either a blown head gasket or worse, the sign of the oil not being there worries me. All the plugs look little soiled but I think the pics are worse than actual.

Good I Lane, yes three of them were stuck in the plug wire I removed them already and bought new ones :)

Pap that pic is just not good for anyone buddy ha ha ha ha

    All in that order lol

So bad news all around, we did a compression test and sure enough

Here is what it read and what piston, the ones at the back fire wall were the low to non existent ones.

    #8-150psi...............#1-0psi
    #7-150psi...............#2-180psi
    #6-180psi...............#3-180psi
    #5-180psi...............#4-180psi

So my early assumption of burn piston might be correct, or valves.

Next step is on Mon take it to the shop, we will do a scope check to see if there is anything visible if not then we start a tare down and keep our fingers crossed :(.
