I've always wanted to get into karting.
As I understand you can get into a brand new one for around 5K.
There is one called the rotaxmax that is on the leading edge.
Sounds like a blast. Those things are quick!

The web site for the Waco kart club is: www.hotkartclub.com

As I recall, the starting age for the "baby class" is 4. Their karts are limited in size and engine. The larger karts are just flat quick. Depending on gearing for the track you are on, a 125 shifter will have a top speed between 100 and 125. 0-100-0 mph times run around 10 seconds. Even with my rather "expanded" waistline, the 80 shifter I play with has been clocked at 96 mph on a straight. The only caution I would offer is "it can be habit forming".

karting will be one of many sports I introduce my kids to. my dad wanted me to be a golfer so bad and I hated it. my luck, my kids will hate racing and want to golf!

when I wanted to get into racing I equally looked at karting and cars. the price for SRX7 racing and karting is about the same, so I selected the real cars.

karting is great and requires more skill to be good I think than car racing, but it is also much more physically demanding. think how many G's a kart pulls and all the violent turns, braking, and accelerating. Sounds great to me!

I raced sprint karts for years in Kansas City when I was growing up. Then switched to enduro racing until the end of high school, and did quite well. The great thing about karting is that you can work on your own equipment, do a modification or gear change or carb change and then go out and see if there was any performance difference. I enjoyed it tremendously. I ended up learning a ton about mechanics and did all of the engine modifications my self. As a matter of fact I still own the last enduro kart I raced. It was called a Hornet Maurader and was made in Waco, Texas. Nothing like a screaming 2 cycle behind your head and your butt 2 inches off the ground at 115mph-WHAT A GAS!
