Were some 1985 3.0 QV Mondials with later bodies?

That is an early (85) interior, for sure. Body looks to have undergone a nice bumper conversion though I don't quite buy into the part about "the Italian way"

Many mechanical issues plus a major service due...................

 

I did not know you could raise a rear window with the top down. It seems strange to have just one up.

My guess... Its broken. Bet it wont go down at all.

I noticed that one rear window up as well. Strange to have it up with the top down at all, unless as Michael suggests, it is broken and won't go down. Which in the case of this car, would mean that until it is fixed, the top must always be down.

 

I agree, from the pics that front bumper looks really nice. Looks a little shorter too, like the difference between the US and Euro bumpers on a 308. Plus, with those wheels and tires, it has a cool stance.

The headrests seem to be from '89+ Mondials?

 

Thats got to be a late 85 3.2 mondi. They have both the QV and 3.2 in 1985. All this guy did was paint the ground affects color-keyed. That headrest looks just like my 87 headrest. Why would some convert a QV to look like a 3.2 when it would be cheaper to just buy one than spend the money on the bumpers, paint, wheels? I would have put better wheels on it for cheaper than OE 16 3.2 mondi rims that probably would have cost 2 grand to put on.

I stand corrected......they did make an 85 3.2 mondi, but that definetly is a qv. Im not sure the owner knows everything about it though. His hp is 245? And it is the only 4 place convertable that ferrari made? What about the 400?

 

One thing, for sure - - that is a QV dashboard, not that of a 3.2, which would have the slight angulation at the upper corners of the instrument binnacle. Unless Ferrari had interiors from one model mixed with bodies from another, at one point in time, I'll stand by this statement: I believe this car to be a QV with converted bumpers and painted bottoms. Also, note the Speedline Mistral wheels. I need one of his three remaining wheel covers

Agreed. QV's are almost always listed as 3.2L in Ebay. I have asked sellers about this many times too, rarely getting a response. I always just put it down to dishonest sellers. I'd be more surprised if carfax was wrong though (not to say it couldn't happen).

I asked the seller to post pictures of the engine and he replied that he would. Let's see. I expect it will be a 3.2L.

 

I've been in contact with the seller and plan to make an offer on the car. I don't have any detailed engine pictures, though.

The inspection did not turn up any major problems, but there are starting issues: a rough idle for the first 30 secs. after a cold start, and intermittent hot starts. Heater and A/C are inop. Various minor details, but nothing too scary for the DIYer.

The car has nearly 90k and I'd like to drive it a fair bit before selling / upgrading... what is the story with Mondials that're long in the tooth? Should I wait for something with fewer miles?

 

FWIW, the serial on this car is lower than my 308 GTS QV (58027), which would indicate that it was built earlier than May 85 (my build date). So, I also believe this car has a 3.0 engine, not the 3.2.

@Maestro8 - I think if you got this car in the $15k range where he seems to have had it priced you will do ok. Yeah, it might need some work, but its a Mid-engined Ferrari convertible!!! There is NOTHING wrong with that at all.

my Mondial QV was delivered in November 85 and still has the black bumpers, on the engine it has all the markings and numbers of the 308, however everyone who knows mondials and 308's says it goes better than any 308 that they have ever seen???

 

Seller claims that it's a 3.0. A picture of the engine would solve that one. The Mondial was the only four-seat convertible built by the factory until the California...if you consider it a true four-seater. Did not sell for $18,500 buy it now price. Rust pinholes? Not driven for four years? Sounds like a potential money pit to me.

 

I don't get how they, Carfax, can mess this up. Didn't Ferrari rename the car the 3.2 Mondial when it got the 3.2 engine? It says it right there on the back of the car.
