An off duty police officer was killed this morning on the west side highway. the northbound highway was closed for at least 8 hours....I drove by in opposite direction wondering why there was such a bottle neck...The motorcycle was still erect however the jeep grand cherokee was directly on top of it holding the front wheels of the jeep a foot off the ground. The front bumber was just sitting on the handlebars of the Bike. It sent chills down my back when I realized what happened.
that totally sucks. Driving a motorcycle is really dangerous on the highway, especially on the west side where everyone drives like a moron.
Coming home from the run yesterday there was a COOKED suv. The entire body was charred. Couldnt even make out the model. Maybe an Escape? No paint, no glass just a shell. Think it was just over the GW on the Jersey side if i remember. Ambulances and a couple people on stretchers. I hate seeing that ****. I wrecked a Honda VFR750 back in 1994 and that was my ass on the side of the road on a stretcher (broke three vertebra and my sternum). Goes without saying that feeling sucks.
Speaking of SHOT-- did anyone catch the cover of the POST today? (I think it was the post) frickin wacko ex-boyfriend walks into his ex-gfriends bar where she works, confronts her, SHOOTS her point blank, hops the bar, continues to unload the gun on her (dead?) body on the floor, saves the last one for himself. ALL CAUGHT ON FILM. The still photo's are on page 4. Wacky crap.
Man that sucks, there are some crazy psychos out there. Its so sad that something like this could happen.
huge 4 car crash on the turnpike this afternoon, just herd it on the radio. Didnt give much details but I am sure it will be on the news. Involved a tractor trailor and there was one recorded fatality. Today seems like a bad day to be driving in the tri-state area
http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=local&id=4459943 ^ heres a pic of the bike that was hit on the west side highway, got it from channel 7 news. that bike is crushed.
HOLY!!!!!!!!!!!!How could that physically happen...unless the jeep was doing 100 and the bike was stopped....poor guy DOA
i dont think so, the article said he work over by yankee stadium I am guessing he just got off. Im sure more information will come up on the 6 oclock news. By the way nice name! my name is Paul too.
Yeah. Thats a bad bad story. I havent seen the news story of the Turnpike one today, but a friend thought he heard on the news that a 1yr old was one of the 4 that died. As a somewhat new daddy, that story just breaks my heart. Very sad.
Did you notice what was on the hood of the Jeep? "Piccolo Diavolo". He should die and go to hell for what he did.
I saw the video on the local news tonight - looks like this wasn't a pretty situation. My thoughts are with the family of the NYPD officer....
Yeah... apparently, this might have been some "road rage" at work (and booze). They think he might have even rammed the bike. Just sick. Freaks me out just *remembering* my days of riding my motorcycle up the West Side Highway... What if some whack-job like this was behind me... The cop leaves behind 2 young kids. How in the world does mom explain this...
Very sad indeed. The WSH is a great road; however it really can also bring out the worst in drivers. One must be careful driving it on "club nights" as there are always a number of drunk drivers. Heck, a few months ago I called 911 on a homeless guy who was walking down one lane of traffic with a shoppingcart!
The guy in the Jeep, Chase, lived a house away from me growing up (I moved a town over after high school). He's my age so we went to school together, etc. for ten years or so. Just an odd situation. He was a good kid growing up. On the Rescue Squad (with me), played football for a few years, etc. Really good family. Really good neighborhood and school system. Generally stayed out of trouble. I haven't talked to him in 3 or 4 years as he went to college down in Florida, but definitely would not see this coming. From the news, he blew a .12 so not exactly smashed here. It sounds like the cop cut him off or somehow an argument started and he was following him (probably too close) and then the cop brake checked him or stopped in the highway. He's had a string of sport bikes since we got out of high school, so he's aware of what they can do and definitely has nothing against bikers. Drunk driving will (incorrectly) be the scape goat; lack of intelligent decision making on both sides will largely be ignored.
Jerk in the Jeep 1, off duty cop 0. So now the lawyer starts the campaign to get his client off. Do you think this guy will serve any time?
