I recently started wetshaving, due to my rosacea, and concerns about irritation using the multiblade cartridges. While most wetshavers stick to the British shaving soaps/creams, I found a great shaving cream from Italy called Proraso. It contains eucalyptus and menthol, for that cool feeling after your shave. This stuff is great. I use it with a badger brush (english made, but maybe one of these days I'll find a nice Italian made brush), and a gillette adjustable safety razor. They do make a version of proraso shaving cream in a tube, for people who don't necessarily want to use a brush. They also make a pre-shave lotion, and aftershave lotion which are supposed to be awesome too, but I haven't tried them yet. I do plan on ordering some in the near future. If you really want to feel the Italian passion, have a shave with some proraso, then take the Ferrari out for a nice long drive. Dom Image Unavailable, Please Login
You sound like Gentry with your grooming/shaving tips ... BTW - what is this got to do with this section?
No, not Gentry... Agggggggghhhhhh Don't know. I guess if any mod wants to move it to off-topic that would be cool. Dom
I always use Porasso, no other shaving cream can give me that smooth a shave. Its definately worth the money.
OK, OK, I'll see if I can figure out how to get a mod to move the thread to off-topic. I got proraso from a place called: www.qedusa.com You can also get it at: www.classicshaving.com
Usually high end barbers have this stuff in stock. Also high end department stores with a mens grooming section would usually stock it. Believe it or not the little tub lasts almost 2 + years, its actually not that pricey. Here in Australia though its quite expensive for some reason.
Speaking of which, have you seen the teaser ads for the FIVE bladed razor called "Fusion" coming out? I suppose their trying to stick it to Schick, after the drawn out patent battle over the four bladed razor.
I've seen it. It kind of reminds me of the grille to a Ford Fusion. I wonder if Ford is going to take legal action?
Yes, but it takes a little practice. I am finding that it is also a little slower than using the gillette sensor that I was using before, but that may be due to my inexperience. Think of it as stick vs automatic. The newer pivoting cartridge blades are like automatics. Very easy to use, little chance of nicks. The downside is that multiblade cartridges can be irritating to some people. The safety razor does give you more control. But, you have to think about what you are doing (see my stick shift analogy). Even with my lack of experience, the quality of shave I am getting is equivalent to what I was getting with my old razor. Supposedly, with practice, I should be able to get even better. We'll see how it goes over time.
This reminds me..I need a haircut and shave! lol. I just use a gillete mach3 turbo(red/black) works fine.
This comment is hilarious. Just goes to show how the Ferrari/Car lingo filters through to things like shavers especially when you include the Colour/Interior Colour.
Not only that, he went with a classic combo for easy resale. Those yellow/tan ones sit around forever!
I too shave with the red/black Mach 3! You've got me interested in alternative shaving... maybe I'll upgrade when I hit 18 .
I have been doing some reading about switching to a safety razor and the world of wetshaving in general. There is some info at for those interested. shaveblog.com http://badgerandblade.com/index.php?page=home shavemyface.com
