Anyone watch this show? I've watched bits of a few episodes, those Sea Shepard's are crazy. I don't agree with whaling, other than Native Indians. Don't understand the crazy Japanese thought process that thinks killing whales produces scientific knowledge, and incidently some sushi. But the Sea Shepard's actions are just as bad. Take the whaling out of the equation, and to me it seems like they are praticing piracy and/or terrorism at sea.
I watched it once and I felt it was nothing but a bunch of crap promoting the actions of a group of enviro psychos.
I watched it last night. The answer to stopping whaleing is not to just ask nice. Strong action has to happen. However these guy's are for the most part goof balls. But what do you expect with an all volunteer crew. The second in command with the wire rimmed glasses is a complete freeking moron. If I was on the ship he and I would be coming to blows.
I have a bit of conservationist in me. I definitely don't want to see whales killed. But, I've seen this show a few times and have little respect for the captain and his followers of the MS Steve Irwin. I don't know why they don't document the whaling and take the info to a jurisdictional court. What they do seems to be highly illegal to me and very dangerous to other maritime vessels and his own crew. I don't understand the mindset of someone that would crew for this guy who seems to be an egomaniac. I would imagine, if I was a captain of a vessel expecting to cross paths with him, I would plan accordingly to protect my vessel and my crew. Boarding a vessel; attacking it with acid; causing a collision; all seem to be acts of piracy and I would sink him...........
From the episodes that I've watched it seems that what the Japanese are doing falls into a semi gray area, but ultimately is not illegal. Yes the Sea Shepherds are basically pirates but I don't think anyone is willing to police them down in the antarctic ocean.
If this makes for an interesting Reality Show someone needs to document Somalia Pirates! At least we can enjoy seeing the "Pirates" getting what they deserve... a bullet to the head! As for the whales? Just arm them with nuclear war heads! Stupid People !
Whale Wars idiots destroy $1.5 million dolllar ship... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWL82aLjRgM&feature=player_embedded
Its about people stopping whaling? I figured it was about the last cupcake at the bakery next to a Curves gym...
I'm neither pro or against whaling, but I root for the Whalers simply because I despise the Sea Shepard, Green Peace, PETA and the like.
+1 Also explains why exactly the Japanese whale. I watched the show for a bit and thought it was a bunch of enviromentals talking tough but ultimately be a bunch of ******* and make the japanese smell a little. boo.
Come on doooown! - Bob Barker from the Price is Right. I am in the same boat....pun intended. I am not in favor of what the Japanese whalers are doing, but find the Sea Shepard yahoos to be so stupidly repugnant in their methods and unprofessional seamanship that I root against their cause.
Pretty much sums up the whole "Whale Wars" & eadliest Catch" BS (IMHO): http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/251888
Oh my gosh, South Park is just brilliant, I love how they tie-in current topics and do a better job at reality through animation and humor than anything else.
i just don't like the way they kill these animals. i guess it happens to all animals, but i just hate to see it. I like what the Sea Sheherds are trying to do but in the end, it will never stop.
I love the way even though there just was a major collision the Whaler still blasts the ship with water for good measure as it pulls away! LOL! My impression after watching the show was the the MS SS crew were a bunch of ineffectual crybabies.
Just curious... how is it ineffectual if we're all talking about it??? Yeah, they could press the issue in a more legal manner, in a court for example, but ultimately, they'd lose, and no one would know about it. This way, they get people talking (every forum I'm on has more or less this same thread on it right now) and people talking = more awareness, contributions, and light shed on this subject that otherwise, few of us would be discussing. I'm all for it. I think they're hippy goofballs, and I wouldn't crew with 'em, but they're taking it public in a big way... guerilla marketing if you will. -Tad
there is some of that, but I think the backlash towards Sea Sheppard and other environmental groups has been more damaging than beneficial. Many are just looking at these people as crazy terrorists. I don't think that's the message they're trying to get across. A common sentiment Im seeing is save the whales, but kill the Sea Sheppard.
Makes me sick how many whales the Japanese kill every year, in the name of research. Whales have brains that are similar in size to that of humans. The Japanese have become so efficeint at it that it's not a hunt anymore, but a slaughter. Someone needs to stand up to protect the whales, and Greenpeace is to darn inactive you end up with these guys. I don't like the half stupid crew, or dim-witted captain, but if they can save a few whales, good for them. The japanese will fish every g-damn fish and whale in the ocean until there's nothing left--zero respect for the environment.
Remember when E.L.F. burnt an entire lot of SUV's a few years ago? That's why people hate these groups. Because they pull asanine stunts and actual terrorist acts themselves.
