I remember that reading somewhere that the Japanese kill so few whales a year, a believe under a thousand, that it actually has no impact at all on the whale population so i dont quite believe that they are driving the whale to extinction, which ive heard several times. Then agian, I read that on the internet so im not sure if thats true or not...

    saves the whales!!!
Japanese should learn to stop hunting them. Hopefully something can be done to protect them.

America hunted whales for years and years, decimating their population. Out of 800-odd whaling ships worldwide, 735 were American. Only when it became cheaper to drill for oil did America stop hunting whales. We should see what it is the Japanese do with the whales, and perhaps try to find a cheaper and better alternative, instead of just trying to convince them to stop. Is it the meat? The oil? The bones? What do they hunt whales for? Can something else fulfill that need more cheaply?

    oh snap! ;)

I wouldn't have a problem if whales weren't hunted at all or legally allowed to be hunted if more than enough population, killing that many whales under the label of "research" is just insulting to rest of the world.

    I agree completely.

Same with killing all the sharks we do. It is insane!

Whale hunting should be controlled so it would be X amount per year based on the whale population and nothing more.

Surely the Japanese can eat other things than whale meat. Rise for example :D

+1. WHat the hell do they use the whales for. I can't imagine looking a mother whale in the eye like I saw on one episode and then blasting it with a harpoon while the calf swims around helpless. Say what you will about killing cows etc. but they are bred to be food and like someone else said, whales are highly intellegent and not bred by anyone. They certainly have a horrible death as well. The sea shepards may not be the best defense but at least they are out there doing what they can.
