Guys Is there a specific thread on 328 upgrades? IE.. improving handling? performance? etc.... cheep fixes or expensive upgrades? Any comments appreciated Thanks
There are a number of upgrades -- ignition (Electromotive, BSM), turbochargers, exhaust. Of course, there is the standard K&N filter element, too. Personally, I believe the best upgrades are easy: reduce weight (spare tire, take the extra junk out of the trunk) and upgrade tires. If your car still has a catalytic converter, air injection pump, air conditioning system, you can also remove these pieces (depending on where you live, what you need, and if the car is subject to inspection and testing.) The 328 really comes alive when you have good tires and shed a little weight.
+1 - there are things you can do to a 328 but very little off the shelf/easy/cheap stuff - although you can get springs & shocks off the shelf I think Tarox do some disks but using the Std calipers so I don't think there is an "off the shelf" big brake kit as there is for the 308. I know QV in London do something for the front using 360 disks & calipers - but you will need bigger wheels. IN the engine department there is little you can do without doing a pretty major upgrade. The CIS injection is very non-tuneable & the same is true for the standard ignition. Some people have ditched all that & gone for carbs but you will pay a lot for the necessary inlet manifold (if you can find one). I suppose an ideal 328 engine would have the heads taken off & the breathing sorted out - I believe the exhaust valves could do with being much bigger (maybe its the inlets , can't remember, but its one of them!). Having fixed that maybe do something with the cams & then stick some thottle bodies and a decent ignition box on it. I've seen a similarly sorted 328 (might have had pistons as well) kicking out near to 400hp. There is plenty of power left in the 328 & the bottom end & transmission are both strong - but its not cheap to unlock it. There are now some "bolt on" supercharger kits around I think if that kind of thing floats yr boat.
I think the 355 upgrade is probably a good option to improve just about everything, or the 308 upgrade if you just want it to look better Seriously though, a set of modern shocks and stiffer springs along with good tires go a LONG way.
