I've just made room for a new car in the stable. I love my 430 to death and will probably never sell it (Black Coupe F1 2006 17, 600 miles)...It's pretty much my daily driver. I've been test driving everything under the sun only to find everything I drive to be boring in comparison to the 430. I just sold my Shelby GT 500 convertible and want to replace it with something fun as hell, manual tranny, maybe all wheel drive, maybe convertible. Would a Turbo 997 fit the bill. Or would a 997 C4S be better? I owned a 997S when they first came out and enjoyed it for 18 months but it was my daily driver and the manual in L.A. traffic is a killer. I definitely want a pre owned car too. Anyone here have any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Ape

I went for a 997C4S stick. great car. I had a 997 GT3RS and sold it as I found it under-powered for what it is - have a 430S coming soon. 997C4S is perfect as a DD run around and my wife likes to drive it.

997TT Tiptronic Convertible and you will not look back. The 997 Turbo is really an unbeatable daily supercar. Easy to drive with massive power and not too flashy.
SL63 would be a good choice as well I guess. That's if you like the looks of the facelift.

Really depends on what you want out of the car. The newer Porsches are no doubt 'better' all around cars, but are bigger, and lack some of the charisma of the older ones, (excluding the 996s, except perhaps for the GT2). There are sources to buy real RS cars from Europe, if that is of interest (probably pricey, given the exchange rate); short wheel base 911's are very cool, and if you don't have to have a matching number car, you could buy a frankencar, with a bigger motor, and have a ball. I am currently driving a 96 993 Cabrio and it fulfills alot of needs; the older cars require some sorting, but if you or a mechanic know what you are doing, you car make the cars handle extremely well. My personal interest is less in flat-out speed these days, so the Turbos have less appeal; I find them to be pretty binary, although I haven't driven the latest crop. Ray Joseph has extremely nice older 911s for top dollar in the States.

A classic should always be replaced with another classic, just my personal opinion! A '73 911 RS or a '74 RSR would fit well in your stable but if you were looking for a "streetable" P-Car, a factory Turbo "S" Slantnose would be an awesome car! A 959 wouldn't be a bad addition too, plus its got AWD!

I am having the same dilemma and probably picking up a BLACK 997 6 Speed Manual in the next couple days as a DD. Non Turbo or CAB though, like the lines on the coupe.

I think I have it! Im most likely getting a 997 Targa 4S w/ Manual tranny and the x51 package. If I get an 09' it would be close to 400 HP due to the increased power on the 09's.

09 targa S will be 385 hp. no x51 for 09's as of yet.
08 targa S with x51 is 385 hp as well.

if buying new then certainly wait for delivery of facelift in october.......

What he said. Also the best looking of the modern Porsches, and they're done depreciating. And they sound the best. If you can live without the incremental performance that always comes with the newest model, the fun factor of the 993 is hard to beat.

The only caveat is that if you go with the cabrio the top isn't fully automated -- you need to snap on a cloth boot after it the power top lowers. I found it annoying after a while, and the plastic rear window is unacceptable in a modern, high-end sports car.

This is why I hunted down a Targa. But 993 really is the real deal, if you want Porsche for Porsche reasons.
