A bypass valve? Someone said that it is the stem meeting the turn mechanism. Can anyone confirm?

If it still rattles once there is sufficient preload from the actuator shaft, then most certainly it is the butterfly shaft is loose in the butterfly body. As the gap between the shaft and the body gets larger with use.

So it looks like you created artificial preload with a spring

Yeah, there was a thread a while back with a similar 'buzz kill' ;). It is a 'stop the bleeding' kinda fix, that will prevent the moving parts from vibrating. It puts a tad lateral preload on the butterfly shaft. The added shaft with bronze bearing reduces some of the added friction, so the actuator is not burdened excessively. It is not a perfect solution but IMO slightly better than letting the valve rattle away .
