I have a replacement lens for my 512 TR (thanks to Mel in the NL!) and am trying to decide what to use to attach the lens to the housing. The existing stuff on the housing looks like white silicone. Obviously, it needs to be waterproof, so I'm thinking I'll just hit the hardware store and pick up some white bathroom silicone caulk. Unless someone else has a better idea?
don´t use this bathroom silikone. after a while it get hard and harder and then it will break and water is coming in. I would use white car silikone or two-component adhesive
under "car silikone" I mean this silikone what you use for engine, gearbox and so on. normaly it is in black, blue or red, but also available in white and in transparent ( clear )
Dropped by the auto parts store on the way home and picked up some Versachem (made by Permatex) silicone gasket maker. It's advertised as a leakproof windshield sealant. Found it on Amazon for 60 cents less than O'Reilly (Amazon.com: Versachem 73009 Super Clear Silicone - 3 oz.: Automotive). It's NOT the "flowable" kind of windshield sealant, which I think would just make a mess. The package says "Guaranteed not to leak" as well as "This OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) approved formula is non-flammable and resistant to motor oil, gasoline, brake fluids, transmission fluids, grease, alcohol and antifreeze mixtures. Tensile Strength of 310 PSI, with a temperature range that is flexible from -76F to +350F, and up to 450F intermittent." Hopefully it should do the job!
