A number of videos on YouTube recently claim that Boeing is going to redesign and reintroduce both the 747 and 757 and that Airbus is going to redesign the A350. I have not seen any confirmation of any of these from any other source. Does anyone have any knowledge of any of this happening? What do you think the companies are up to?

The 797 is a bigger 757-300 and the A350 is getting an update. 747 is done, long live the queen!! The 777X will take the 747's and the A350-1000's place :)

I don’t think Boeing will ever make a narrow body other than the 737.

If you cannot make money on them, they get parked.

Boeing is up to this: Image Unavailable, Please Login

Its a tech demonstrator collaboration with NASA, but everyone seems to think if it goes will that’ll be the new design.

What's the wingspan on that thing? I think the lift bodies make a lot of sense. I'm surprised if this is more practical.

I watched a talk years ago by Boeing’s Senior Tech Fellow in Aero. He basically said lifting bodies are great technically but that nobody wants to fly in them because there would be so few windows.

I continue to see new YouTube videos claiming that Boeing is putting the 747 back into production (unless they're referring to the 777X, which is really supposed to do that) and that they are going to do a 757 MAX variant. Can anyone add anything to this?

Its just wishful thinking. The assembly area for the 747 has all been repurposed now. All the tooling has been or is in the process of being recycled. All the engineers have retired or been dispersed to other aircraft. Plus, they retired it for a reason, the 777X is a better plane and almost as big.

Cost to run four engines made the 747, 340, and 380 unaffordable compared to the wide body twins.

No chance. The a350 will naturally see a few more evolutions, but I think the market in most of the world is looking for A321XLR/ULR-type designs now. While a 757 is basically that, the airframe and platform are too old to be competitive, so while I'd expect a 797 design to be similar, it'll be closer in philosophy to the 787 (composites, etc)
