I want to learn what areas I should pay particular attention to when I look at a 328. I understand that geographic area is a factor. Thanks.

None that I know of. I don't think I have ever seen a 328, 348, or higher that had rust......

I would be wary of one with rust. If the owner is going to let it get to that point, imagine how careless he/she was with the internals?? That's my opinion. And this is from a guy who wouldn't be afraid to take my car out in the winter.........as long as there wasn't ANY salt on the roads......

I have seen 308s with rust all the time. I don't think they went to galvanized steel till later in the years of the 308. But I could be wrong.

If you take 308's and Mondials as a base example (more rusty 308's and mondys than 328's) its basically the underneath surfaces, door bottoms, wheel arches and anywhere water can sit, although I've never seen a seriously rusty 328

I've seen surface rust on multiple 328s at the very rear of the quarter windows where water can pool under the louvers. Other than that, there's not a particular rust problem with the 328s and later.

Thanks. I agree, if there is rust, then that would prompt to wonder about the basic care. Good point.

In the channel in front of the front wheels where the fibreglass front valance & the front wing meet - you need to stick your fingers in there & have a poke around. Check round the Radio Antenna & also behind the quarter window louvres (i.e. where the gas cap is & same on the other side).

Also check the top of the windscreen if its a GTS - have a look behind the seal that the targa roof sits on and check the sills - if some muppet has jacked the car up badly these can get partly crushed leading to water getting in there (I know of a 308 that suffered this fate). Door bottoms need a good look at as well.

Before I bought my 328 I looked at several cars and the only place that I noticed a problem was on the bottom of the door. If your looking for a car don't only be concerned with the rust issue, but make sure they have the service history up to date.
