What are the similar traits of Classic Ferrari owner

i dont care about clothes, furniture and i dont watch television. cars to me are EVERYTHING. i started with $75.00 junk Camaro's that i dragged home with chains out of peoples yards. now i am into Ferrari, though i am "just" a 308 guy. i hope to be able to own / maintain a V12 F car and a V8 Lamborghini in the very near future. nothing else matters.

As with everyone else here, I have loved Ferraris since I was a child. I chose to buy my first Ferrari before my first house. Investment wise, it was a horrible move, but it was done of pure love for the breed. I do not regret the choice, but now that I am in the market for a house and I do not want to give up the car it becomes a question of practicallity vs. passion. Perhaps the equity earned on the house can be used to finance the next Ferrari.

I fit into the catagory. State employee (not much money there), wife doesn't work (will be a full time stay at home mom when my daughter is born in 25 days, give or take). I love Ferraris and especially my 308. I would love to buy another Ferrari if ever I have the opportunity. 365 GTC/4, 330 GT 2+2 Series II, 250 GTE...in that order (of course I would keep the 308).

I love the 80s and earlier Ferraris. Would I take a 360 or 430 ?...YEAH!!!! But with my budget, my 308 is all I can handle right now. I love all Ferraris, but the older ones are my favorite...and not just 'cause that's what I can afford.

I have met many 360 owners and 550 owners, though, that share the same passion for Ferrari. They are in a better financial situation and love what Ferrari has become. But they never look down on me for "only having a 308". I have been very well received my millionaire attornies in PA with Enzos and $$$$ GTOs and 308 owners up and down the East Coast. Are there Ferrari owners out there just "fronting"..yup..saw one on an episode of Casino...wanted a Ferrari and got into a bidding war with another young guy to buy a newer 2+2 from the "typical" used car guy. Neither seemed to know or care about anything to do with Ferrari, except that it was expensive and gave them perceived status. But I digress. Here in S. FL, all are welcome and are a great bunch of Ferraristi.

 

I read a quote somewhere that I have taken the liberty of using whenever someone hints that I must be seriously loaded to drive a Ferrari...

"It took all the money I had to buy it, and takes all the money I have to keep it".

And at the moment, the only car I would swap my 348 Spider for (excluding unrealistic ones like the 250 GTO!) would be a 348GTS or, and I wish I had the extra £10k spare to get one... a Testarossa 512TR. An Enzo it may not be, but still one of the milestone true Supercars of this world.

 

I booked my car in for a service and a new water pump. When I asked for a quote, the guy said "Ask not what your Ferrari can do for you, but what you can do for your Ferrari".

 

They would, wouldn't they...!

I fit right into this group. I havn't got a pot to p**s in, and after years of chasing money all over the place, I don't give a damn anymore! I've got a nice house, wonderful family and friends, my golf handicap is coming down, and a cheap Ferrari that I feel proud of each time I drive... It don't get much better.

 

Amen!! The only difference for me is my handicap is going up!

 

Unfortunately, more and more "classics" are going to be parted out over the next few years as repair costs exceed market value. That's good news for those of us who have tenderly maintained our cars, because as supply dwindles, market value will increase to meet the cost of maintaining/restoring these beauties.

 

I just love 308's more then anything. I could have something else if I wanted to.

 

I think I have fulfilled my childhood dream after I have recently acquired 328 and 512TR. I think they are the models that symbolise Ferrari.
The love for Ferraris can't be judged with the model you drive as I know Ferrari fanatics who own 360s but because they want less hassle with their cars then they pick the newer models.

I like the classics for their styling. Sure I could afford the newer cars, but they don't do much for me.

All of my cars are going to be long term holds, the newer ones have too many electronic things to go wrong, I can still repair rather than replace the crude items on the classic cars.

If the wife allows it and the garage space grows, we're going vintage next rather than newer.

 

Me too...except for the "I could have something else if I wanted to" part.

I would love a 365 GTC/4...I am hoping than in a number of years the price will not have gone up. My wife says it looks like a Corvette...but I think it's stunning. Just saw one in dark blue...that or silver is what I want, Only 500 made!!

Anyway...308 is my absolute favorite. I just saw a pic of the F430 spider...at first glance I though it looked like a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Then I saw a pic of the new Eclipse...looks great...great lines.

 

I think what we all have in common is that we are all a bunch of perverts LOL

but seriously, for me the Testarossa, 512TR, 512M is simply the best looking road car ever made. I have 3 of them , I really am a perv

The new 430 has blue tooth & paddles & a robo top & maybe a nav system but I dont care. The 430 is a good looking car but the Testarossa is a Masterpiece. This is the car Michelangelo would have designed

New cars are nice but older cars have character ,remember Nick Cage's classic line from GONE IN 60 SECONDS

"If I was driving a 550 Maranello I would be a simple poser but if I was driving a 275GTB4 I would be a Connosuier "

The whole design of the Enzo & the 612 baffles me, I fear for where Ferrari is heading with these 2 atrocities although the 430 is a torch of hope for future Ferrari design

What are the similar traits of Classic Ferrari owner?

Dang. Now I have to sell....

 

The newer Ferrari's don't do a thing for me. When I think of Ferrari, I think 308, 308, 308, just as 90% of the American public. When a 360 comes down the road most people don't know what it is, but when a 308 comes down the road, most know it is a Ferrari. I could own a newer one but I am not exicited with the design. The 308 (to me) has a timeless design.

 

Our throw-it-away, disposable culture values new cars. And, the window sticker is most people's guidepost to cars. (I.e., BMW 3 is for aspiring young professionals; the 5 says you've made it to upper middle class, the 7 says you're wealthy.)

Several of my friends, even younger guys into cars, think I'm an idiot for looking to buy a 20-25-year old car, no matter what it is, when I could buy something new. My standard response is to tell them that with Ferrari I can't afford the 35-year old ones that I'd really want to drive. That usually ends the "newer is better" argument.

But I'm in the happy position where the cars that I'm really nuts about aren't stupidly expensive anymore. So, instead of trying to outspend everyone in So Cal - which is financial suicide anyway - I just thank Enzo that the ones I want the most are attainable.

(Gil - congrats on the pending new family member. Wow, might be time for a 2+2... )

 

Gil. Glad you agree! (I have a bit of a shank creeping into my swing now, so maybe life ain't so rosey)!!!

p.s. your garage looks great, loads of Ferrari stuff all over the place. I started to do the same a few weeks ago. I think this leads back to the premise suggested that owners of older cars have more of a passion.... and are more attractive generally.. ;-)

 

Here are some other traits of the classic Ferrari owner:
1. Willing to get thier hands dirty and work on their own cars - not because of the $$$ but because they want to.
2. Purchased their car because of a love of cars not a show of wealth.
3. Prefer gate shifting to paddles.

I have had the chance to drive a 246, 308 (mine), a 355, and a couple of 360's. Obviously the 360 and 355 were superior to my 308 in every way imaginable - speed, acceleration, braking, handling etc, except one - my 308 looks like what I have always thought a Ferrari should be. I would however trade it in a minute for a 250.....
