Normally, I would just install with heavy grease on both sides for easy gasket removal later, but that front bank is such a PITA to deal with, and I don't want a leak.

I am thinking that Ultra Black or Ultras Grey silicone between the gasket and the valve cover, then apply a thin film of grease to the gasket mating surface on the head, then a thin film of silicone to the gasket surface that seats to the head.

The silicone should fill in any irregularities, and the thin grease film should make removal easier down the road.

After scraping the old gasket off the valve cover, I used a long sanding block and 240 grit emery to make sure all nick, dings, etc went perfectly flat, and am triple checking the head surface for any remaining gasket material.

    Thanks,
    Doug

I used 3 bond and 8 years later no leaks but I am about to try to remove it so.... :)
I used a scotch brite pad on a drill to smooth mine out

I just use white grease on the head side and leave the cam cover dry. When I bought the car it had a leak in the driver firewall side due to the PO using a cheaper gasket that srunk and broke. I have not had a leak in 7 years . I also use a rubber finger type of gasket remover that is used in my die grinder. It strips the gasket from the cam cover and does not hurt the aluminum. I use a "touch" of sealant at the cam seals front and rear. Good luck

Never heard of one of these, got a picture or a link?

    Sounds like something I need.

I am almost ready to start the car after its long dormancy.

All fuel lines and hoses have been replaced, water pump replaced, belt replaced, rebuilt the alternator, new valve cover gaskets (front leaked prior to shutdown), new radiator hoses everywhere, new height adjustable shocks on the rear. Put VC/distributor back on, add gas and battery and try it. Check for carb leaks of course.

Only thing I really need to replace yet is the heater hoses and brake vac line, and rubber brake lines, and that will happen during motor R&R this winter. And deal with a headlight diode, and put in Birdmans fuseblocks, and rebuild the power winder motor mechanisms, and of course install the new front suspension parts and bushing and CV joints I have stockpiled. Hmmm, maybe it isn't as far along as I thought. :)

    Thanks,
    Doug
