Surprisingly little information in the archives on Gallardo insurance.

GEICO, my current insurer and who I've been with for over two years with a perfect driving record, is seeking to charge me $4,200 / year which I think is ludicrous.

Unfortunately, I can't insure through many of the specialty insurance providers - Leland West, etc. - because, living in the city I don't keep another car, and many of them require a second vehicle to be used as a daily driver.

Please let me know who you're using, the cost, and anything else pertinent that may have influenced the number (good / bad driving record, multiple cars covered, etc.)

    Thanks.

While not an exotic owner, I have insurance with Jimmy's guy too, John Hosea. Great guy and no problems at all. Then again, no claims either.

!!!!!!!!! I'm paying $1,800/year ($500 deduct) on my 91 MR2Tubo here in LA. Clean driving record. Oh, yea I've checked around. Believe it or not that's the best rate.

You guys have nothing to complain about.

  10. Yeah, you really have nothing to complain about. My insurance on my Ford F-350 is over $3,000.00 per year with Geico. I too have a clean driving record. No accidents period and no tickets in the last 5 years. It is only because I live in Miami, FL. I'm looking to relocate to NC in the next few month and have already looked into insurance. It drops to around $700.00 anually.

if you're smart you'll get ANY other car you can find and make it your main vechile, even if you're just gonna put it up on blocks and never drive it. My NSX WOULD have been $3500 for 6 mos if it was my only car, but since I have a beater truck it droped to only $800 as a pleasure vehicle with 7k miles a year aloud..I only put around 5k miles on the NSX so it all works out :)

Someones comment about buying a beater to be listed as your daily driver is 100% accurate...an exotic as your only car is always gonna be big $$

As an example I live in Los Angeles ( expensive city) and have insurance through State Farm with one speeding ticket and I pay $ 6000 year total for a 2005 mercedes c55AMG, 1999 Ferrari 355 spider, 2001 Viper and a 2000 BMW M roadster... thats an averaqe of only $ 1500 per car.

    buy a beater ..

NOT true. I finished up my active service in 1994 and am NOT eligible. Believe me - I have tried to get a policy from them (they pretty much can't be beat!)

I'm not sure this is correct for specialty insurers like Leland / Chubb. When I last spoke with them (admittedly, a couple of years ago) they stipulated that the car has to be three years or younger. Your strategy may work with mainstream insurers, but I've already got GEICO treating this as a pleasure vehicle with the mileage I put on it (<3K / year).

You also forget that I live in New York, and housing this "beater" car in a garage would be $4K - $5K a year.

If you want to play, you have to pay. Buy the car and don't sweat the small stuff.

    Well said.

The small stuff always seems to add up to BIG stuff after a very short period of time. Sweating it is what makes you rich and keeps you rich...

I was looking at taking out a policy for Gallardo attacks, and they wanted $500/yr, with $500 deductible. With those rates, I'll just take my chances out on the highways. Chances are my Subaru will blend in with the other cars and the Gallardos will just leave me alone.

USAA is great!! I pay $420 per year on my 1988 GMC Sierra, and I am only 16. Whenever I get a quote from them on a car they have great rates.
