Because Dell has been so dominate in the market, and F-chatters seem to be rather tech savvy and might help me see where Dell's future earnings (and stock price) are headed.

If there is a trend away from Dell by the techisti the great unwashed are likely to follow in a year or two.

I'd hate to buy a rose that's starting to wilt.

If it makes any difference, I am using my Gateway PC here at home, but I just purchased 2 Dell Inspiron notebooks for the girls to take to college. They had the most features,(wireless, DVD, speed, hard drive capacity) for the buck.

As far as future investing, personally I think Dell is pretty strong. They are positioned nicely in the mobile market and projected growth appears to be in that sector.

Of course, I thought Beta would beat VHS, so my opinion may not rank that highly. LOL!

Im using an older HP with some upgrades (new fans, video card, ram, etc), and its a piece of crap. I want a new one for my birthday:

    Dual P4 3.2 processors
    2048mb RAM
    2x100gb 10krpm drives, RAID card
    a gazillion USB drives
    Dual-Layer DVD-RW drive
    Insanely fast CD drive (250x!)
Dual 9800 vid cards, with TV output for my favorite feature:

A projector screen instead of a monitor!

3 PCs at home, One custom built and 2 Dells. The custom built one serves as a media station for photographs, music and video clips. The two dells are used for work, emails and internet browsing.
2 Laptops, 1 Dell and 1 HP. A neccesary evil for any trip.
PalmOne Treo 600. A good productivity enhancing tool combining cell phone, camera, pda, wireless internet, and emails on the go.

I still see lots of Dell, and they're certainly getting more of my revenue. Just bought a few more Dell Servers and desktops.

But don't see them making much inroads with their network switches - which is my market. But does sound like their printers are doing ok.

I buy IBMs for laptops, and I build my own desktops.

    I am using a sun V440 - 4 procs 12GB ram - Raid 5 configured 300gb of storage.... Primary server

I also have a Dell 2.4ghz play server for MP3 server and Movie/DVR Server and photos... (i now have ~36,000 songs in the old MP3 Collection...)

2 laptops - Master Bedroom, and Family Room - Monitors cameras and security systems - as well as playing MP3 and general internet stuff.

1 Sony Compact - in the kitchen - my wife uses this for e-mails and recipes, etc...

But I do this for a living (I am kindof a gadet freak) - so no saying i am a geek... Ok maybe I am..

Did I mention my routers, firewalls, wireless and repeaters around the house... I am practically glowing from all the equipement...

Oh and I have it all backed up with a NG power generator - just in case :)

I need a bunker in the basement and I will be all set ;-)
