The Amazing clean and pure, original consept, blew me away as a kid, still does, one of the reasons i choose my career, altough, mine got keels instead of wheels,
From my earliest exposure to the Countach as a young teen, I always recall thinking how cool the whole front configuration was. I loved the pop-up lights (of course) but I especially loved how the parking light/turn signal cluster was enclosed within a separate housing. With the black bezel and the clear lens, it’s so much cooler than the Berlinetta Boxer. Lastly, the way the Carello passing flasher lights (yes, the are passing lights, not lights) are ideally incorporated within the front bumper and how perfectly symmetrical the lower spoiler design is for air flow. I too like this as is it was the practical and effective radiator solution that was designed to overcome the problem of the inefficient cooling of the original fantastic LP500 Prototype.
It is indeed quite special. However, I’m surprised nobody has commented that the Countach windscreen in fact has slight curvature to the flat plane, imperceptible to most perhaps unless you see a unit out of the car, but, it is not 100% flat.
Another favorite design feature of mine are the split side windows. How often have you heard people make reference to them only capable of being lowered 2”? It’s so cool. Does anyone have a firm idea of why the split window concept was chosen? As for why the lower window has so little lowerering capacity, I’m assuming it’s because the drastic curvature of the door, hence a lack of room for the glass. I have to say this is my least favorite aspect of the Countach. I got locked in a Countach Anniversary once and could not open the doors. I had a terrible claustrophobic feeling because of not being able to get out, even if I smashed a side window. There could be some very dangerous situations if you roofed a Countach. Still love it though. It is the most visually stunning car ever made.
It cannot go any lower due to the NACA duct extending into the door and the door button / latch mechanism.
I was spending more time looking over many photos of my car last night and thinking about the symphony of design elements that work in concert with each other and cause such chaos when people see a Countach for real. The fascinating thing is how many of these features are rather subtle yet add tremendous drama to the entire car. One perfect example is what I referenced earlier - the dramatic curvature of the side windows and doors. The way the windows turn dramatically inwards at about shoulder length of the passengers and jut into the roof line. It's really something.
