Hello “F” Chatters,
How’s this look to you? In short this guy from an e-bay sale where he was requesting people to contact him before they “bid” as to qualify bidders for a low reserved classic car. He’s from a 3rd world country in Europe. I’m approaching this very, very cautiously!
Let me know you thoughts on his e-mail correspondence. Does anyone out there have any experience buying cas overseas?
Thank you.

Chris.

This was after we negotiated some logistics: (All after will be replies by seller)

Hello there!

I have received your email and I understand your concerns. However,
until now, this way I have always conducted my sales and I never had a problem. Feel free to check my feedback page on eBay to see that I have only positive comments (no feed back avail, too old of listing)
from the buyers and sellers I dealt with. For most eBay users, this is more
than enough. I have always kept my part of the deal in the past... Why should it be different this time? I'm waiting your email so we can arrange everything right away. the car had her original body whit no damage na hole or something like thatbay the way i don't want to accept your idea because here to make a cards can take several weeks and untill then you can already have your car and save some precious money My best wishes! i'm waiting for your mail

Cont’d e-mail:

hi again
i solve the taxes problem the shipping fees icluding insurance will be some 2300$; i think the car will pass the inspection because she was inspected here two months ago and she was ok yes this was an europen car ; so tomorow i will ship the car (i will need your adress for that) and then i send you the shipping document (i will use UPS )and you send me some money to pay the fees.the rest of the amount you will send it to me after you receive the car my best regards!!i'm waiting for your mail

Cont’d e-mail:

hi again
i was today at the shipping department and the told me i can pay them in max 12 hours after i shipp the car so after i shipp the car i send you the documents and you send me the amount the rest of the money you will gave me after you receive the car.for the shipping i will need your entire adress and your full name so i expect your mail whit those info
my best regards!! i'm waiting for yuor mail

Cont’d e-mail:

hi again
for shipping i will use UPS but as i told you y have spoken whit them and they told me to pay them cash in max 12 hours; the balance of money yuo will send them after you receive your car;the car has his original engine and had never been out of the car.i rarely drive this car an she is in verry good shape. So you agree to send me those money after i shipp the car ?i ask you that just to know if i ship the car or not.as i told you before you'll never have a problem whit this car and she will pass the inpection. so i expect your confirmation and after that i will shipp you the car
my best regards!!i'm waiting for yuor mail

Latest e-mail:

hi again
ok i acept to pay me the rest of the money in C.O.D;asi told you i will use UPS Express and the car will be in Los Angeles in max 3-5 days ,from there a truck will bring her at your door but you can come to Los Angeles to see her and drive her to you place.when the car is shippen i will inform you at every 6 hours the status of the car . so we agree after i shipp the car you will send me the found i need for the shipp and insurance fees.because you agree i'l tomorrow morning and i shipp the car then send you the documents .
my best regards!! i'm waiting for your mail

My communication to you:

There you have it, he seems pretty persistant and attempts to answer questions, Don't worry "Mama didn't raise no fool" I'm not gonna send money to someone I don't know "ain't gonna happen."

I'd like your thoughts.

Repsectfully,
Chris L.

It could be fishy. You or someone needs to verify in person imo. Based on a quick scan of this I wouldn't send any money without some serious due diligence.

In my personal experience with E Bay i lost 2k on a PC purchase a few years ago and never received 1 red cent in reimbursement, the putz simply filed bankruptcy. I am fully aware of the difference between a PC and a Ferrari but i won't buy a stick of gum off Ebay now. If you feel that strongly about the vehicle i would place the funds in an escrow account contingent everything is legit.

If the transaction is legitimate (I don't think it is) and the car is worth the expense and hassle to import, then it is worth getting a lawyer or escrow company to handle the transfer. Make sure some trustworthy independent party takes possession of the car before authorizing the release of the funds. I bet if you suggest that to the seller you won't hear from him again.

Of course, it goes without saying that you should have a PPI done on the car before making any kind of offer.

This is the scam that's been discussed so many times on this forum, may have been in other ways. If it is too good to be true, it is...

Well, after another 48 hours to ponder your situation with this guy since you first asked about this deal in the last thread.... I'd say

RUN DON'T WALK!

This is a classic scam! Do some searches on ebay in this forum. Do a search on ebay and scam.. Do a search on ebay and italy. Take your pick any or all, you'll get plenty of info on sooooooooooo many other people that are supposed to be selling cars the same way. But we've never heard of anyone that's actually gotten a CAR like this.

I know you want a great deal and the guy has a convincing scheme for how to do it and make sure you're protected. There's always more to it than he lets on. We, collectively, have seen this many times before. Now quit talking to this guy and quit hoping for a bargain against all reason. But do keep posting if you insist on continuing in this pursuit. We'll keep trying to talk you out of it.

Considering how exceptional of a deal you are getting,i would rather fly to his place & check out the car myself, but thats just me.Anyway this type of scam has been done numerous times and yet people fall for for it.

If you are seriously thinking about a grey market car I would reach out to a few of the players doing the conversions/EPA certs. They can point you in the right direction if you really want to go grey market.
