A PO repaint did not include redoing the seam in black. I proceeded to do this using silicone caulk which has a glossy sheen. Lately I've noticed all cars with this original (or redone?) black line is a dull flat black.

If anyone has redone this to their car, what material did you use to get the dull sheen?

    Thanks.

My friend, you are really down to the tiny details, very cool.

I have not used this on my car as I have original paint, but PL polyurethane caulk (Home Depot) has a satin/matte appearance when cured. It will also stick to anything on the planet IMHO, the stuff is bulletproof (I use it for all waterproofing/caulking applications in my business except for clear caulked glass). Clean up/tooling with VM&P Naptha tends to flat it out even more.

Permatex also makes a "liquid rubber" repair adhesive glue in a tube that appears the same or similar to the 308 body seam material (Permatex black rubber sealant RS-9)

The permatex stuff has pretty volatil acetone/MEK solvent base though and may be difficult to apply smoothly without damage to the adjacent paint job.

Find a Wurth representative, they supply oem fasteners and have all the OEM stuff for our Cars. They sell the correct sealant but more importantly they supply an application gun with the perfect nozzle for the perfect width of sealant. With this setup it is really easy to lay down a perfect factory looking seam,no wiping no cleanup.
