Outstanding choice!! But you have to play the song while you sip it. ("Wellerman" sea shanty--you don't actually have to)
Nice. I got some Blanton's (very enjoyable) last time but was sadly unable to snag anything this go around.
Cracked open this year's KO wiseman's bourbon release. I have a love/meh relationship with KO. I think the Confiscated is the most overpriced thing in the bourbon universe, and their ryes aren't far behind. It's not that they aren't good, is just that for the most part they aren't worth the price of admission. Their yearly bourbon releases are a little different though. yes they are pricey but at worst they are almost worth it and at best they are exceptional and more than worth it. Let's put it this way, you'd be happier paying $100 for a bottle and getting great value, but chances are that that value would get known quickly and they'd soon be trading at what their current msrp is at. Basically it's an expensive bourbon that usually plays up to its price point, and because they price it at what it's worth it means that they're usually readily available and not unobtanium. The other reason their bourbons teeter from either side of awesomeness and disappointment is due to the alcohol content. I struggle with 120 proof whiskey, it's a personal thing that finds no joy in throat violence ... for example I hate Stagg Jr, and that's bourbon snob nirvana for some reason. They can have all of it. But I digest ... this year's KO release gets it right, it is delicious, the proof doesn't destroy the wonderful complexity, it is to me worth it, so I might go get another bottle. this is the distillers edition. Still the same great smoke and leather you would expect from the 16, but quite a bit smoother and a hint of sweetness to it.
With all the scotch talk… finished my chores, went for a nice drive in the X, fired up the chiminea and poured one of my favorites. Now kicked back enjoying cool temps and a nice breeze. Old favorite … btw they stopped packaging it wood boxes for some reason. All the one that came in my store were bottles only. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a couple empty decanters on the shelf I'm looking to fill for the cooler weather ahead. Any recommendations for moderately priced bourbon/scotch I'm likely to find in stock at Total Wine would be much appreciated. Historically, I've enjoyed Laphroaig 10, Old Forester BiB, Angel's Envy, and occasionally some VSOP/XO cognac or armagnac (by no means an exhaustive list, but provided as a baseline). Looking to try some new stuff.
my favorite reasonable priced cognac is A de Fussigny XO. Definitely check it out if you haven’t tried yet. If you enjoy Laphroaig 10, you like the medicinal smokey Islay scotch. Check out any of Ardbeg or Lagavulin’s offerings.
Thanks. I'll check those scotches out. I want to say I've had that Fussigny XO pass through my decanters before, but I'm not 100% sure. A good friend of mine recently welcomed his first child, and I gifted him a bottle of Ardbeg's Corryvreckan. He shared a couple drams with me and I can confirm it was excellent (assuming you like the style).
Woodford Double Oaked, Horse Soldier, or honestly just straight ol' Elijah Craig would probably be good choices. I never cease to be impressed with just how good EC is considering the sub-30-dollar price point.
At around $50, both Wilderness Trail BoB bourbons are just about the best value in the 'findable' bourbon world imo.
Found out a friend has never had ECBP, so he's got a care package heading his way tomorrow. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Legent with the chiminea. Really like it. Beautiful evening. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
