personally i prefer OWA (weller 107) to the 10 year, same proof but to my palate noticeably smoother. flavor profile seems identical, but i'm also a snotty little ragamuffin, so take my opinion for a grain of salt. ;)

also a lot cheaper and far less "holy grail-ish" so easier to find. :D

just traded a fella one of my spare 43-dollar Blanton's for a fresh Weller 107. :)

ETA: The only other in the Van Winkle lineup I've personally enjoyed was a fresh neck pour from a 20-year last January (2020--pre-covid) in Austin at Apis. If memory serves they've been closed since COVID so odds of that bottle still being around are pretty good. It was fantastic. Cheapest I've ever seen PVW20 as well, full 2oz pour for 60 bux. :O

I just tried Weller 107 2 weeks ago. I agree, very smooth - seemed buttery if that makes sense but a lot of fire. I was hoping he had Weller 12 as I thought that was the Pappy base....I could put up with Weller 107 - and no disrespect as I know it is a great product but I'm not sure if it would be my favorite.

I thought this was really good and proof a little lower (not the estate version though which can make Pappy look cheap at auction - depending on the vintage)....pic. from the web as I didn't want to rudely snap a picture near my host.

I certainly don't find it disrespectful at all, everyone has a different palate. My "work trips" abroad have yielded a change in my olfactory system that leads me to only taste sawdust on a lot of younger, "oaky" selections. As long as you find a favorite for YOU....then enjoy it in good health and with friends and family. :)

I just finished off a bottle of that not too long ago. Was at the Willett distillery over Veterans' Day, and was able to pick up a pair of minis shaped identically. :D They're adorable!!

This was kinda weird, seeing this *MUCH* ECBP all at once.

Also ignore that price tag, it's erroneous...it's 64.49 which is the cheapest I've ever seen it in MD by a LONG ways. If anyone has a hankerin for a bottle say so quick-like, I can go back tomorrow and grab some. :)

Oh don't worry, Toasted is even less than that. :D

And I already have a "slush fund" ready to roll if they stock it.

I may pass by again on Thursday; Monday/Thursday are delivery days and if they're getting Barrel Proof, Toasted may not be too far behind.

Hah. John Mendoza (smokewagon) just posted that jack on his IG :D

A friend was desperately seeking a Blantons for an xmas gift. Thanks to the cheap harvest recently in Annapolis I had a spare, so off it went. He was apparently very appreciative, said I'm making him look like a rock star this year, so he sent a fresh OWA in gratitude. And that wasnt all. A few samples and.....a miniature night light many will recognize. :D

Went back yesterday after work and the shelf was already clear. :(

There's a few clubs in the area and i'm guessing someone in one of them got word, had someone clear the shelf lol.

Seems to hit the shelves every couple months; betting C921 drops around mid-January. I'll probably grab 3-4 bottles next time I see it just to have for friends. I'll post up here once it does, happy to hold a bottle back. :)

Just learned that apparently I have a friend with a hookup at High West (his sister is dating the sous chef at their restaurant) so I have a bottle of their Utah-only Single Malt heading my way. :D

And before anyone says anything we've already had the MWND discussion :D

I am a huge fan of toasted barrel finishes in general. The Michter's TB bourbon is up there as one of my favorite drams of all time and the Elijah Craig TB is just about the best 'gettable' sub $100 whiskey out there ... and even the Basil Hayden Toast is fantastic value and I suspect it will start creeping up in price.

All that said, until today I have never drank a toasted barrel rye. Michter's is the only one I know of and it's super hard to get. I had been holding back on my bottle but decided to crack it open today. What a revelation! One of the best whiskeys I've ever drank. So good it might actually be worth what it is trading for. If you have a chance to grab a bottle do yourself a favor and don't pass it up.

In my official record book both Michter's TBs are superior to both Michter's 10yr, the bourbon is close, the TB rye is magnitudes better.

Prav has it down in DC.

He does not appear anxious to part with it. ;)

    Keeping an eye out now!!

I've suddenly become extremely fond of a Smokewagon Old Fashioned with Honest John's Sarsaparilla bitters.

    What a flavor bomb!!

(no photo, but I'll snag one of my refill in a little bit.....I'm off tomorrow. ;) )
