I have this same bottle, its been in the cellar for years. Was offered it and took it many years ago, I know next to nothing on it
I know a lot of people who'd get antsy seeing that chunk of ice. I also know a lot of people I'd tell to suck it up and let the fella enjoy it how he enjoys it. Weirdly those two lists are nearly identical.
Many years ago I took a tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery. The tour was given by an older gentleman who was actual worker in the distillery. At one point he paused the tour to relate a story. Try to imagine his Tennessee drawl. "At first I used to drink Jack Daniel's with a splash of water, but then I realized it watered down that fine Jack Daniel's taste. So then I started to drink it on the rocks, but then I realized the ice would melt and water down that fine Jack Daniel's taste. So then I would drink it straight, but I found I had to wear a blindfold. My eyes would look at that fine Jack Daniel's whisky and my mouth would water so!"

A couple of thing to share ... First I got the new LE PLP 8yr rye for $120. It's an interesting pour, they got it out of their barrels and into their bottles juuuust as it started getting 'ethanoly' as some ryes do when aged too long. There are hints that that process just started to happen which gives the whiskey character and texture, that is if you like that sort of profile, which I don't. . But it is worth a try at a bar to see if it's to your taste. If you like Lock Stock & Barrel 16 then you will like this for about half the price. I said yes for the hell of it and to support the community and it just got here today. It's something called Driftless Glenn 5yr single barrel straight bourbon. Any idea what this is and if it's any good before I open it? Image Unavailable, Please Login Here's the hi res pic of the labels: https://ibb.co/KNKcRVW
My honey hole in Atlanta never fails to have something I can't get ahold of in MD. Atlanta, your traffic is beyond abhorrent but dang it you always do right by me on the bottle front. Image Unavailable, Please Login
@soulsea never heard of Driftless Glen but as a midwestern boy I did many summers in Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo. It's a lovely area. That is all the insight i'm able to provide i'm afraid.
I had a couple of tires put on today so I had about 45 minutes to kill. Rather than sit in the tire store I discovered a Spec’s (large liquor store) within walking distance. I strolled over and picked these bottles up this afternoon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I introduced two friends and one wants to buy the other a bottle of bourbon to say thanks for a favor. He has offered two choices: 1: I. W. Harper 15 yo. Apparently, it's really hard to get and an excellent bourbon but not overly pricey; and 2: Elmer T. Glee Single Barrel Sour Mash. Another really good bourbon that's available but at a higher price point. Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on the two?
Seconded. The Harper bottle is fancy, I’ll give it that. I thought it was good, but I seem to recall it was $125 and my lasting memory was that it want worth what I paid. The Elmer is always good, especially for the price if you can find it without getting scalped. JK
Sheep Dip. Bottling Note: A blended malt, Sheep Dip is comprised of over a dozen Scotch single malts that have been matured for at least five years in a variety of first-fill sherry, first-fill bourbon, and refill oak casks. Great retro packaging too. The only thing is, the picture of the sheep on the bottle doesn't actually look like a sheep, it actually looks like an angry spaniel with horns.
