Does anyone have experience with this one? It seems like a unicorn amongst unicorns, so I grabbed it. Last Drop No. 28 JK Image Unavailable, Please Login
Holy crap, I finally opened it and I’m glad I have a backup bottle to save. I did not know if you’re setting me up to knock me down, but this is one of the best bourbons I’ve ever had. Way better than last years 118 that overcompensated with alcohol for its lack of substance. This is on par with the most deep and complex lower proof bourbons I’ve ever tasted, if it had a pappy label it would sell for $5k. I’m hoping I’m not alone in this take. That’s good to hear! The one I got recently is up next once I clear some of what’s already open. I usually like their stuff, just not that Oat Grain thing they did a while back, yuck. I need reinforcements to move the process along. JK
Your review is certainly an outlier. Most of what I've seen is the juice doesn't justify the price tag. My TW has a bunch of this.
I’ve obviously enjoyed it, and I would agree it’s fairly complex for a lower proof bourbon. My only real issues with it was it seemed like a “younger” bourbon but without an age statement it’s impossible to tell, and I’m not sure it’s worth the hefty MSRP for a 700 ml bottle. I think for whatever reason sometimes one connects with a whiskey, or a car, or a person, that others might find ordinary or might even dislike. Looking back on my original post on it I was a little too hyperbolic, but it resonated with me in that moment and every sip since, so for me the price and 700ml shrinkflation was worth it, in fact for me it was a relative bargain because I had so much joy in drinking it. God knows I've paid stupid money for meh bottles in my past, it's nice when it goes the other way every once in a while.
At this point, yes. The usual suspects have been traveling or have taken foreign assignments, so it’s slowing to a crawl. JK
Boulevardier with a really nice local pick of Wildermess Trail Rye. They caled it Pablo Escobear. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login And yes I'm using my special fancy glass.
Well within 2 hours of landing at McCarran I had the hunt finished more or less.... 2 BEP (one for a friend who's on a work trip to one of those less than desirable places right now) and a smokewagon uncut 167A from the total wine on lv blvd south, and a quick pop over to a Lee's yielded a pair of EHT small batch and.....something I've never seen in the wild personally before and while not MSRP, it wasnt full secondary (and a good bit less than the 579 they wanted for EHT BP) so it's going home too. Picked these two bottles up last weekend…Stagg 18 & Stagg 19. I tried the 18 and it has a significantly different profile from any other Stagg Jr. I’ve ever had. Much oakier and tasted like it had some older aged bourbon in there that had been barreled for several years longer than the normal Stagg Jr. Maybe there is some truth to the rumor that the unbottled BTAC Stagg juice from 2021 was used in the Stagg 18.
