re-visiting my half-bottle (that's left) of Old Elk New Orleans Bourbon Fest 2022 pick (i think 2022, might be 21) and hoo lawd is this the biggest regret of not buying more i've ever had.

creme brulee into bread pudding into straight bananas foster. the finish genuinely feels like i'm at Brennan's. absolutely spectacular.

Interesting, although slightly less voluminous than an average one, your Dickel looks huge from this angle.

I snagged this today. I was raised in the midwest hence the mandatory expression.

ETA this is also my first time realizing it says ops instead of ope.

I really need to get smaller thumbs.

Yuge, bigly. I’m interested to try this one. I have the 17 on hold for a 17 year tasting. If I live long enough to get into the new house, I’m going to run a tasting with:

Winner of the BTAC (William LaRue, Eagle Rare, George T Stagg)
    Old Fitz 17 decanter
    Wild Turkey Masters Keep 17
    Heaven Hill 17
    Dickel 17
    Willet 17

    You were beyond right.

Best pour I've ever had. Hands down no question.

    Absolutely phenomenal.

A123 was lovely. A124 is waiting in the wings. Might knock off another bottle or two that's close before cracking anything new though. It could get out of hand one of these days if I'm not careful. :D (yes i put those last couple drops in the glass after the photo)

    Well it isn't cola.

    But it is a liter.

Friend who just PCS'd to Texas (his retirement base as he hits 20 next year) was wandering around a Spec's and saw an anomaly behind some California red blends. Asked if I had "any interest in this kinda big bottle whatever it is".

He's a champ. And my apologies if it was yours that you'd stashed for later :p

I was never aware of this bourbon until I heard Scott Neil interviewed on a morning sports talk show here in Boston. He was one of the horse soldiers in Afghanistan. He spoke for about a half hour and his accounts were fascinating.

He was in Boston to promote his bourbon and was signing bottles (on the left side). I was able to get two of them. The one on the left is Small Batch and the other is Barrel Strength.

Great guys with some unbelievable life experiences. And that's just the stuff they're allowed to talk about. ;)

I tend to keep a barrel strength on hand in perpetuity.
