Booked a room at a little hole in the wall pub for our last couple nights in London (Tomorrowland is over, recovery mode activated). Booked in based off location and soaking tub. Turns out there's a little private patio area for just our room as well. Having some Blanton's SFTB in 'not a typical hotel glass'. Highly recommend the place if Barbican suits your needs. It's not a small event. Had a blast. Also had lotsa stressors lol. Might be a couple years before we head back.
It reminded me a lot of a purple top. The "willett fruit" wasn't as front and center but still very much there.
I haven't been to this thread in a long time but apparently today was my lucky day. I finally convinced the owner of the corner liquor/smokes store to sell me the one he had hanging around on the shelf for the past many years. It is one of the 18-year aged bottles. I have talked with him many times about this bottle. While he would have sold it at below market, market is close to $1500, I didn't want to pay $1300 for the bottle. Today he said, "What would you pay?" I threw out $700. He looked up what he had into it, then reached up and took it off the shelf. YEA MY SIDE!!! Now, I just need to pick the occasion to open this one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agreed, probably the best I have ever had. It had stiff competition from a 50-year-old Rittenhouse. I got that when I started drinking rye, maybe 15 years ago. Rye wasn't in vogue so you could find, and no one had made it for years. As a result, you could get amazing stuff for less than $100. THEN, it had its renaissance and the amazing rye for dirt cheap was over.
Will likely crack the Bomberger's (both 21 and 24) to take some to Italy. As it stands, my first order of business as freshly retired is a lil sip or three. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I opened my 2024 Bomberger’s a few weeks ago and thought it was excellent. Much better than last years version and IMHO it’s also better than this years Shenk’s. Interested to hear what you think.
Okay, first pour thoughts. It's sweet on the nose, lots of apple and honey for me. Oak but not super-strong, just enough there to know it isn't young. Some good pepper spice and chocolate at the end which is nice and long. Not as girthy on the feel (giggity?) but i dig it. Vanilla is quite strong across the board too but it's bourbon so...that's expected. Happy about this one. I'll crack the 2021 tomorrow and do a lil side-by-side. See what's what.
Just spotted at Costco - $159 for 24 50ml, so about 1.2 liters in total Image Unavailable, Please Login
I want to ask whatever company offers that "are the premium world whiskies in the room with us right now?"
It was given to me as a gift so I did the Flaviar advent calendar last year and it was bleh, so I saved all the empty bottles and refilled each one whenever I would open something good over the last twelve months. Should make for a yummy December.
