What Bourbon/Scotch are you drinking?

My insta whiskey club does an advent calendar every year. What's great is a lot of them are the picks we do over the course of the year, and/or some of the best-loved bottles from zooms and lives and such.

I love your idea though and definitely won't be sniping it for myself in any way whatsoever.

I think this makes for a good run. Maybe take out the JD and/or SW If something else good comes in before December.

 

i mean....that's a tough list to argue with.

i may put the M10 Rye as xmas eve but i suppose getting that into the details is all personal preference. As to the list....zero arguments and exponentially better than just about anything found online.

Very grateful that she knows if she wants to get me anything advent, it's the insta group one.

best bourbon for an old fashion or manhattan?

 

no one single choice really. I tend to love Buffalo Trace, Bulleit, Knob Creek and Elijah for a bourbon old fashioned (mainly because they're widely available); for a rye old fashioned I lean to Wilderness Trail, Elijah Craig, or just good ol' Sazerac.

 

I'm in the middle of the aforementioned Bomberger's 2021/2024 tasting. to my palate the 2024 has a longer finish, but the 2021 is a more substantial mouthfeel. Both have a good solid vanilla and fruity (apple/pear on 2024, peach/plum on 2021) base, but the chocolate and spice on 2024 has me liking that one more on a freshly-popped bottle (in fairness 24 hours ago on the 24).

I'll probably have one or two more from each to get them more or less even before we head overseas, then revisit when we get back and see what a couple weeks does.

ETA: the 2021 needs some air.

Oh man it opened up phenomenally.

More to come. These could both be something you pour, then find a different dram to enjoy first while they breathe.

 

Almost forgot about the folks right up the road, Sagamore Spirit! Their double-oaked is incredible in a manhattan.

 

I actually like 1792 Full Proof for an Old Fashioned. Second choice OGD 114.

Costco doesn't sell booze in MD?

 

Nope, what started as antiquated laws restricting ALL alcoholic beverages to stand-alone liquor stores is now used as a tool to preserve extortion and nepotism on the behalf of the liquor board in each county. Kinda like US Congress and their insider trading but on a smaller scale lol.

 

My buddy and I got tickets to pick up a case next month. Haven’t bought flights yet and not sure we’ll make the journey. I had a friend go last year and shipped me a bottle. It’s some great stuff

 

I have a friend whose sister is well connected at the distillery and he sends me a bottle every year

 

If Utah wasn’t so restrictive on shipping alcohol to/from, I’d be happy to send you all whatever you need. We are a 5 min walk to the Saloon.

Blanton's
Pappy 15
Buffalo Trace
Pappy 23 (I know the most expensive and rare, but very strong notes for my novice palette)
Sazerac Rye (just not a Rye drinker but folks there really liked it)
The Century Vodka was really good, just can't find it anywhere.

Harlan Wheatley (Wheatley Vodka) is the Master Distiller and was there that night talking about the spirits. Very nice guy, going to support these brands for sure!

 

Motion to ban.

 

This stuff is fantastic. Maybe the smoothest bourbon I've ever had. One review said it was "crushable" and I agree. If you're near a Costco pick this up before it's too late.
