If I'm not wrong that effect is called "solarize". The Sony cameras have that effect typically. Don't know of other brands that have it though. It is pretty cool, I like that effect very much.

Sorry, but I don't see any effect.

i thought it was an f-stop thing. makes the car look like a scale model. i notice it when others do this, it's weird on my eyes. the scale is off.

I am kinda sure that it has some sort of effect. Maybe you could put a link with a bigger picture (if available).

Not sure what "effect" you are talking about. It could just be the post-processing that was done to the picture in Photoshop to make it look like that.

Wow, I really have no idea what camera affect can make a 430 look like it has a standard 6-speed!!! Hah, we all know that ALL 430s are F1's, right? [/sarcasm]

Tougher to tell distance on the first full car image. Lighting looks like whatever was in the interior of the location, without fill lighting. The interior shot seems more like a 24mm to 28mm (or equivalent) on a 35mm (or full frame D-SLR) camera. If you look at the A-pillar on the interior shot, you can see that a large softbox was used overhead. This also accounts for the somewhat matte (soft) lighting on the tops of the instruments and vent outlets.

Just for example comparisons, an interior photographed with a 50mm would only show some of the dash. Also, if a short DoF was used, some of the background would be more blurred. A view camera could alter the plain of focus, or create a seemingly larger DoF.

Without seeing a larger version of each image, I would guess that lighting is more of an answer that a specific camera. These shots could easily be 35mm, medium format, large format, digital P&S, D-SLR, Digital Back, or even a scanning back.

Anyway, if I can get this attachment upload to work, here is a very short DoF shot of an old Ferrari. Enjoy!

    Ciao!

the former look like illustrations rather than pictures.......i'd have to go with photoshop. there isnt anything [to my knowledge] that will allow a camera to do that in-camera and on the fly....especially do it that well.

Lighting's totally different between these shots (2 soft-boxes vs multi-spotlights), and also post-processing, so it's difficult to compare, but it's certainly nothing to do with camera or its settings.

Thanks, that pretty much answers it. I just wanted to know if a simple camera setting could do that.
