After reading the post what's in your garage I thought a post of what has been in your garage would be interesting. Perhaps their has been a similar thread, if so I did not see it. Mine is as follows (does not include daily cars):

Arntz Cobra was the original kit manufacture. I was going to build it at a shop in SF, but the guy turned out to be a crook and went to jail. Without a place to build it I took the parts to one of their (Arntz's) subcontactors to have them build it for me. Steve Arntz had a hot customer, took them to this shop to see a kit (mine) and sold them a kit (mine). I had the shop start fabricating the frame and various kit parts and sued Arntz. I ended up with a nicely finished but really crappy car for very little money. Unsafe at any speed! I traded it for the R5 (second one in the USA). - George

You have the Zagato in CA?
I saw one in 1992/1993 in LA Brentwood area, forgot whether it was on a tourist plate or not. Is yours on a 'show & display' plate?

Well these are all the cars my family has owned:

First navigator from 1998 (navi) (bought our second in 2001 and still have it)

Ford explorer eddie bauer edition 1995 (nickname:eddie)

Ford Thunderbird turbo (this thing really kicked ass-black on black super fast! I loved it as a kid-called it the bat mobile lol)

And we had a trans am when I was little also. Gunmetal grey. Pretty sweet also. It was an 80s car but I dont remember the exact year etc (I was small!)

Thats it actually. My family hasn't owned many cars in the last 17yrs as you can see.

A 60 Chev 409? How did I miss that. I thought the 409 was not available until 1961. Yea, shoulda kept the 62 409 A/FX.

    Mine?
    56 Plymouth 4 door
    1955 Chev (265V8)
    56 Chev (283)
    1947 Ford Sedan (Flathead V8)
    41 Willys (Original hemi)
    58 Ford Starliner

68 Olds 442 --shoulda been kept--Crower roller cam, Jahns pistons, 750 cfm Holley, Tarantula High-rise, Dougs headers, 4:56 gears, Hurst Competition Plus spring loaded shifter. Loads of fun. Similar cars now selling for upwards of $25K.
    70 Grand Prix
    72 Malibu SS
many more in between then and now
Oh, most fun---'23 Ford T-bucket altered. Full tube chasis with 454 Chev big block. Ran A/EA because I ran just a single 4 bbl. Best of 8.96, 168 mph.
Most scary---31 Bantam Altered with supercharged big block hemi. Was a total handful to keep on the track. Best, low 7's, 185 mph. Should have been quicker and faster but I guess I was not the right driver for it. Like to swap ends............

    Many BMW's over the years
    two M/B
    Lincoln Mk v
    Dodge Grand Caravan AWD

    Time to move on

Wait, I just saw it on your list. The car I want now. 62 Corvette 327 Fuelie. Only 947 built and you had one? Cool...........Frame off restos with matching numbers are now going for about $50K and up. Another I bet you wish you had kept.....

    Tritone,

I just did some research and found out that I was correct about the year that Chevrolet introduced the 409. It was 1961. The largest engine available for a Chevrolet in 1960 was the 348. NOw just where did you acquire a 1960 model with the 409? If you really did have one, that is the one you should have held onto. It would be the only one in existance. Can you supply some evidence of this car existing?

Also, the 1962 409 was a S/S class car, not an A/FX. There was not an A/FX class in 1962 that the Chevrolet competed in. Don Nicholson and Dave Strickler were the most famous of the 409 crusaders and won many S/S class championships. And the 425 hp engine came out in 1963 as a 409 and mid year as a 427 with 430 hp ( although many say that it actually produced closer to 500 hp). The A/FX car came out in 1963 and Dave Strickler won the national championship in 12.17 seconds with it. I can probably give you a little more information about the cars you say you owned if you would like. Please help me understand how you owned these cars before the factory even built them.

I competed in drag racing for many, many years, starting in 1961 and competed up until the middle 90's. And I still follow it closely now. I am considering going back in and driving an altered again but we will see if that pans out. Having owned some of these cars, as you say you did, where did you compete and when? I just might have seen you somewhere!!!!!!

If you would like to see my 23 Ford Altered, you can click on my profile and go to "threads started by Audiguy". About half way down there is a thread of , McLaren, Altered and M/X or something like that. Click on it and you can see a couple of views of the '23, a couple of my friends McLaren that I got to keep for three day and drive and a picture of me at the 1973 Lake Whitney 250 Nationals when I raced M/X for Kawasaki.....

I would love to see some of the cars you say you had at one time. These two seem to have a rather dubious existance. Any pictures of either one of them?????????

    Audiguy -
Give the old guys a break, it's been a while since the day.
The '60 is on the top; looks like it ran C Gas that weekend (yes, and very cool that we drove our racers to the races and home back then.....)
Where they put a mod car for one event @ Bakersfield.
The FI Corvette is below, and the only shot of the 62 is behind it......
Shows nothing. OK, so not AF/X. What was the highest class in '62-63? I recall it was above S/S.....And for sure I was an also-ran to Don Nicholson - so much so that he was usually happy to tune my car before a run.
I'll keep looking for another pic of the 62.....
    Anything else?

Did not mean to sound too brash but there are so many people who come on here and make claims and cannot back them up that I have started to question.

Yep, looks like C/G to me. From every source I have, I have that the 348 was the largest engine available in 1960. It is just strange to me that a 60 model would have a pre-production engine in it. When some of the modifications were done to cars in the early days they would get stuck as a gasser because they did not fit into a perfect class.. Gene Snow and Art Chrisman had to run as C/FD with their early fuel injected, altered wheelbase funny cars because they did not have a class for them.

A/FX came out in 63. Chevrolet also started the early part of the year with the higher output 409 but came out with the Z11 427 mystery engine midyear. Junior Johnson set up a couple of cars to run Nascar and got banned. It had something to do with the way they brought air into the intake system. I used to have some pictures of the inside of the air cleaner with the top removed and it had some snaky looking tubes bringing air in.

The Ramchargers brought out supercharged altered wheelbase funny cars before the funny car class and created a new S/FX or supercharged factory experimental. It was just about a year or two later that Don NIcholson and Eddie Schartman came out with the first of the tube frame, fiberglass body, pop top funnies.

The 62 327 fuelie Vette has been one of my favorites since I first saw George Maharis on Route 66. About a $50k car now for one in excellent condition, mid $30's for a good driver.........I still want one, 40 years later......

I ran a lot of different cars over the years with my last one being the A/EA '23 Ford T-bucket altered. 454 Chevrolet engine produced a little over 650hp on the dyno as it went to the track the first time. Absolute blast to drive, scary but fun. 8.96, 168 mph. Fastest was the '31 Bantam with the supercharged 426 hemi. 7's, upper 180's. If I had had bigger kahoonas I probably could have gotten more out of it but it was just so unwiely on the track that it kept me off guard. Only ran it for a year and switched back to a stocker for a couple of years. Did not stay stock long. 68 Olds 442 that was quickly modified to Crower roller cam, Jahns pistons, ported and polished heads, Dougs headers, Tarantula high-rise with a 750 cfm Holley. Installed 4:56 gears. Left like crazy but had no top end with those gears. Could only get about 115 mph out of it at redline. But boy it could get to that 115 mph quickly.....Or at least in that day it did. I could only get it into the 12's.

Boy, times have really changed. Cars just get the power to the ground so much better than we did back then. Tires might have something to do with it also.

Sorry if you felt really attacked. Please accept my apologies. Just tell me how you got that 409 in 1960. It has me bumfuzzled........
