That's the issue. The stations (read: Clear Channel) should have to throw out their play lists and pick new songs to play. "Coming up next, a little Red Hot Chili Peppers" What do you know? Under the Bridge! Another one that needs to be retired, by the way, along with the song that sounds like it (only lamer) that was released on a soundtrack. In fact, RHCP is a band that really used to rock and has gotten pretty lame.

I guess that's why we're all different, I could listen to the Allmans all day long and never tire. Two drummers, three guitars and keyboards, there's an awful lot of music happening there. Still, if you're not a fan, I can understand your view.

    I would add:

    Hey Jude
Like a Virgin (stretching the def'n of 'classic' here)
    Magic Carpet Ride
any of the five songs from The Band that ever get played

Many more of my favorite most-hateds have been added to the thread!

It's odd how an artist's worst songs end up with the most airtime...I'm an old fan of Jimmy Buffett but Margaritaville I hated the first time i heard it.

You must be referring to Soul to Squeeze (Coneheads ST). I kinda like that one actually.

RHCP *has* gotten lame, but I think their lamest stuff is their newest stuff, as in the Californication crap (unless they have something newer out, I stopped listening after that).

And you *have* to be kidding about American Pie, right?! There is not a single modern song that can hold a candle to Don Mclean's lyrical genius, that song has so many nested levels of meaning.

Man, I have been so polluted by Clear Channel that I barf any time they play "the Stones" or "Who" or whatever classic rock band they think makes the station cool. I mostly listed to KBCO, because they suck the least and tend to offer more music than witty DJ banter. They bill themselves as "World Class Rock" but it is really a bunch of pop stuff with some classic rock thrown in for their perceived cool factor. It is because of this pollution I vote anything "rock" made between 1969 and 1980 be retired from radio. I would also like to add RHCP to the list. Their rhyme-driven drivel is little more than the giant suck.

I recognize by such an encompassing ban list I am missing out on some great music. As someone mentioned, Thin Lizzy has some great stuff (The Cowboy Song is one of my favs), but you know what, to not hear the same recycled top ten hits by name brand bands is well worth it. I'll seek the B sides on my own time. Let's make music interesting again.

Roger that. Our Clear Channel station plays that, Rush (Tom Sawyer), Billy Thorpe (Children of the Sun), AC/DC (She's Got the Jack or BIB), Thin Lizzy (Jail Break), about 5-6 times PER DAY!! I absolutely can't stand it. Any old song that I ever liked is worn out and ruined by them.

No, I'm not kidding. The song goes on forever, lays the lyrical symbolism on way too thick and I seriously think he was more torn up about Buddy Holly's death than Buddy Holly's own family.
