Does anyone know which Ferrari model he owned?
I have a book in which they did an interview with Bob Wallace (I think thats his name), Bob says that the incident never took place, it was all taken out of proportion as a marketing tool.
So either he or Valentino is lying because in the Lambo DVD interview with him, he talked, whilst not in big detail, of the incident.
Very interesting, I wouldn't call Balboni a liar. Bob Wallace was the test driver for the Miura and Countach and he said that the incident didnt take place. Maybe Balboni believes the story or maybe Wallace isn't sure that it happened, I don't know what took place but it wouldn't surprise if it was all made up, just the same maybe Enzo did act arrogant.
we'll really never know. Because I heard Valentino say that even Ferruccio wouldn't confirm or deny it whenever he was asked. As they always say 'it adds to the whole mystic'
I believe the part of the story that has been missed out is that Lamborghini had his Ferrari modified with a lot of non standard engine parts as a result Ferrari refused to work on it. Prehaps the ultimate case of a warranty dispute. Not sure which model it was
This is such an interesting question and I give you credit for actually providing a source instead of 'well the version I heard' or 'the thing I think it was'... printed sources from actual witnesses is always good. By the way, I heard from some dude on Fchat that back in the day Rob created the universe. At least that is the story I heard or made up. Thanks for fact, Testa. RocketBoy
Finally got a chance to scan the article from the 11/1986 issue of Autombile. Interview with Bob Wallace. http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/10633/lambo1.jpg http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/10633/lambo2.jpg Only took me 3 years to do it.
From early, early Lambo 350GT road test in R&T mag, ca. 1966; I think the story was Enzo kept him waiting way too long for a personal meeting, Lambo stomped out vowing to build his own car.
on the Lamborghini DVD, Valentino Balboni recollects his version of the story. Apparently it was over a clutch issue, and Feruccio tried to advise that there was a malfunction due to the way it was design or made, and Enzo turned around sayting that because he was a tractor driver/manufacturer, he doesnt understand the concepts of running-gear engineering for a car (or loosely "you know squat about how clutches are supposed to be designed, and you dont drive a car like a tractor.") the real truth died with Ferrucio.
Enzo: Why do Lamborghini drivers use powdered soap? FL: Why? Enzo: Because it takes longer to pick up in the shower. And that was that.
Thanks for posting that. I read it 22 years ago and it is still a great read. Bob Wallace debunks some of the myths that are still being told to this day. He had a great job in those days...
Is Ferrari in Modena or Maranello? I drove through Modena the other day, a place i will never return to! Anyway i thought it was in Maranello
Mr Lamborghini built cars because he thought he could make money at it...I have a book someplace with an interview with him that stats just that. His feelings for Enzo were not good on a personal level, but on a professional level he respected the man very much. The issues with his car did play a big roll in his decision, but it wasn't done out of spite.
Dear Lamborghinisti, Basically, ....so you think yours is bigger than mine.... ....yeah, I'll show you! .....and big ego's to boot ! Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
