I'm not sure what kind of snake this is, other than "dead". Any ideas? . Image Unavailable, Please Login
hah! No, it's a non venomous water snake. Vipers have a disctict head shape. Cottonmouths rarely have much coloration, they are very dark, and usually short and fat (for a snake) You've thrown the whole eco system out of whack, Dave!
There's only two kinds of snakes on our ranch.......... Dead ones, and ones that are getting ready to be dead.
Rat snake, they come in a bunch of color variations. Doesn't look right for a bl snake or water snake. I'd rather see a snake than deal with rodents though.
How sad (or funny) is it that I thought the exact same thing when I saw the thread title on the main page??? Mark
Rat snake. I live in a new subdivision and they were all over this spring. One hanging the iron work in our front door, in people's garages, a couple in houses. They were hungry, I guess. Not poisonous. Not really dangerous. Just the ick factor because, snake.
My son grew up catching snakes in the bayou behind his house.. "How about THIS one, Dad?? Is THIS one a poisonous one??" Thankfully none of them ever was.....
A friend of mine breeds boas, in Port O'Conner. He released enough King snakes on his property that they actually dispaced every rattlesnake for miles! He must have 500 snakes, in his breeding room off of the garage.
Fighting snakes with snakes. A neighbor and I discussed doing that in our neighborhood in California. Bad year for rattlers 2 years ago. Neighbor girl got bit walking across her lawn in bare feet. Another got bit swimming in a local reservoir. I never knew rattlers could swim. Have any idea how much antivenom treatments cost? You can buy a nice used car for less. A week after coming here Leslie got stung by a scorpion...Oh well.
Sorry 'bout that. Evolution didn't account for scissors and a strike tail. Snip...problem solved. Not the only thing evolution hasn't touched here in TX
That is a Texas Rat Snake my friend. Ia m 100% sure as I have had lots of experience with snakes in my life.
As a matter of fact I know EXACTLY how much it costs. If you search my posts you'll see I was bit by a copperhead last year. My ankle still isn't functionally correctly.
