I'm disappointed. After learning your trade in Houston, what the heck are you doing up der in hippy dippy land?
66 Olds Cutlass with a 330. I could not abuse that car enough. It refused to die. Then after graduating H.S i bought a 74 Fiat X1/9. I could not pamper it enough, constant problems. But fun.
High School-none. Had to borrow mom's Monte Carlo. College-1972 MGB and 69 Lotus Europa. Medical School-Toyota Celica. Residency-no car again. Had a bicycle, though. Fellowship-190E (a total POS-in the shop often) steve
Graduated 1974 New Trier West, Northfield Illinois I drove a "poor mans" Porsche... a 1965 Corvair Monza 2 door, 110 HP with an automatic trans on the dash and a set of American 5 Spoke mags with G60X15 BF Goodrich tires. Bought it from the back of dealers lot for $200. Broke down on the way home in an intersection during rush hour...fun . just a bad alternator JD
Cool car. (Chuck you Ralph!) Did you know that you could store a beer keg in the front compartment? Don't ask how I know this...
One night I was with some buddies and wondered how many people could fit in it and still be driven...magic number 13 fun! (half +1 were female) JD
High school wheels were made by Schwinn. When I got some seat time in Mom's car, I was styling in a 70 Nova w/ 6 cylinder and Powerglide. Senior year in college 66 Mustang coupe. That car is still in my garage. Erich
I didn't have my license yet. And my school didn't let us have cars anyway. That didn't stop some of my friends from trying...
Was a Senior in 79 and had a Candy Apple red 68 GTO with cherry bomb exhaust. Sure do remember some good times in that back seat, Now have a Spyder as back seat not needed any more, Boy do I miss those days. Sure is true what they say "youth is wasted on the young" if we only knew then what we know now
Believe it or not, I still have it. My father bought it new in '69, in two weeks it goes off for a year long restoration. Great little cars.
No license, no car. But like Zach's school, we weren't allowed to have cars/drive to campus. I got around town riding in my friend's 1981 Honda Bluebird (Civic, I think).
Well,I have now put you on my + list, not that you care.Thats rare .The only thing rarer is a 69DZ302 with 4wheel disk, cross ram,and chambered exhaust.Dam I love those cars!!
Winter Park H.S., the Ferrari was a GTS white on tan with blue dash and door handles, I didn't get the car right after hich school graduation as I wanted but it didn't hurt to wait a little.
1981 Y84 Bandit Turbo Trans Am. i kept the car all these years .... sold it a few months ago to feed the ferrari fever. bought it with 47,720 miles, sold it with 69,986 original miles. the black car on the left in the pic.
Me neither - drove Pop's Chevy LUV pickup. Also got a suitcase from Grandparents, who no doubt did as fine a job of hinting as your household did... Ex-wife kept the suitcase. <Sam Kinison>Die! Die Die!</Sam Kinison>
Ha, so that was you in that car that I burned on my Triumph Bonneville? You had great car, but those skinny tires just couldn't hook up could they? You'd pull up at the stop light with your cigs rolled up in your tee shirt (yes folks, I am that old) and glance over and flick an ash at me. Ah yes, James Dean never died did he? Too bad that it was all sound and fury when you floored it. Me, I was tooling down the road laughing my ass off. Dr "Gotta love power to weight ratios and skinny tires" Tax
Pretty interesting thread. HS: Nada... no car. Homewood Flossmoor High School, IL. Class of '73. College (starting sophmore year): 71 TR6 with several rust holes the size of footballs... spent one summer as "Mr. Bondo" junior body repairman. Car was a rolling bondo machine... had more bondo than British metal... but a great deal for $1500 (not). Car showed 53,000 miles when I bought it but the speedo was broken (seller told me "it just broke"). Little did I know British speedo's never made it past 50,000 miles... probably had 100K miles on it. But one of the most fun cars of my life because I worked for the local municipal sewer and water dept for two summers to pay for it at a whopping $2.50/hour... along with some help from my Dad. Later a 72 Camaro. College class of '77.
Huh, what kind of high school doesn't let their kids have a car? Shiiiitttt. Must be one of those lifting little pinky finger schools...
