What did you want to be when you grew up? Was it an astronaut? I wanted to be many things like a Police Officer, or a car dealer just like my dad.
Marine biologist. Then I really stunk at science in high school. Just as well, 'cause my roommate in college was a Marine Biology PhD candidate at U of Hawaii... he spent like 3 years studying the reproduction patterns of sea snails .
Garbage man: I was fascinated with big trucks and hydraulics. The garbage man would come every week and I thought it was the coolest thing when I was a kid. Seeing all that machinery at work. Air Force: Living on a military base when I was a kid, I was exposed to a lot of military stuff. I loved F-4 Phantoms and used to build scale models of planes when I was a kid. Got to ride on a C-141 and C-5A when I was kid and took a "MAC" flight to the Philippines. Then my dream got ruined when I found out I had to wear glasses. My mother always warned me not to sit too close to the TV. Damned Scooby Doo was too captivating!!!!
Superman- i was obsessed with him i wore these superman pajamas wherever i went it was funny. Train Conducter- come on who didnt want to ring the whistle train Air Force Pilot- I was on planes alot when i was younger so i was always fascintated by them and one time a flight attendant let me see in the cockpit and from there on i wanted to be one. Now i want to be wither an investment banker or atleast something that deals with wall street.
I want to be a race car driver...but I think Im a bit too late for that. I havent been racing karts since I was 2 days old
Add another airforce pilot to the list. Is this common among most everyone or just Fchat members? Seems that a lot here wanted to be that. A friend and I just studied planes all the time - he wanted to design them and I wanted to fly them.
I wanted to be an Air Force Pilot, and then an astronaut. Then I found out I had lousy eyes, and that dream died. I still don't know what I want to be.....and I'm only 30 years from retirement!
I wanted to be a scientist. What's funny is that, after finishing up my degree, my first job was at a pharmaceutical company with the title of "Scientist", in the safety evaluation department. I still have my old business cards. Dom
Baseball player - Even if I never made it past the minor leagues, I just wanted to play ball every day. Director/Producer/DP - Did some PA jobs in college and despite being on the bottom of the food chain on the sets, still loved it. Might still make it someday. Of course, I like everyone else have a few scripts I'm working on. Do we really hafta decide what we wanna do by the time we're 30? Nah!
I actually wanted to be a policeman like my father was for 30 years. I actually was 2 classes away from completing my education on it and even working for the same dept as my father. All of this was quickly rethought one day while 2 of our officers were shot and killed in cold blood. I saw the effects it had on the families and couldn't see myself putting anyone through what I saw. Although working with computers doesn't give me the same feeling I think it is better off for my family.
No real astronauts when I was a kid, that came later.... I wanted to be a Navy Pilot . I did that during Vietnam era. The rest of my life has been exciting(skydiving,scuba,200 mph car runs etc) but there is Nothing quite like a night carrier landing with pitching seas for pure excitement something one NEVER forgets!
When i was a little kid, i wanted to be in the mafia... then i wanted to be a ninja... Then some kind of assassin... Then i wanted to be some really elite cat burglar... Then i wanted to be an actor... Then a rapper... always wanted to be a racecar driver... i remember the first time i got some little Hot Wheels Grand Prix car, i looked at the package and sounded it out: "Grand... Pricks...?" From the other room, i heard my father: "Grand Pree...! It's pronounced Grand Preeeee!" Racecar driver/writer have pretty much remained while all the others have sort of taken a back seat... i'll never be good enough to be either, but i'm not exactly disappointed with my current position, if you know what i mean, so i'm not looking to go anywhere, anyway...
