I know he is the new dual crowned F Nippon and Jap GT champ. You would think someone in F1 would be interested. I don't have time to follow the lesser formulas anymore so if someone has any info? Sounds like the guy has potential - and he is left talking to the Champ car teams, yuck!

The consensus is that he has a lot of open wheel experience in "weak" series and hasn't faced much competition. I heard that this years Forumla Nippon was one of the weaker fields in years.

Lyons raced a few years in Formula Vauxhall and then spent some significant time in Formula Audi which is the equivelent of Skip Barber Dodge (and that's not meant as a compliment). Until this season he was unimpressive in Formula Nippon the past two seasons.

The last issue is money, which like most UK drivers, he is very lacking of !

He's hoping to cash in on Firman's route to F1, but I really don't see him getting a ride in F1 unless Eddie Jordan feels some sympathy for a fellow countryman.

Richard and I worked together in the UK for a while. He is a nice guy and a very strong driver. I last saw him just before he took off to Japan. The weakness in his package is his managment. Nowadays it is IMPOSSIBLE to get your ass in an F1 car without a good manager regadless of how deep your pockets are. Magazines tell a small part of the story and it is not until you live the life for a while that you see first hand how strong the politics involved actually are. Even the most die hard enthusiasts think that talent will overcome all. Not so, when you look at racing as a business you see that there are lots of talented drivers out there, lots of them even have access to money, and even fewer have sharp people guiding their careers.
