I'm trying to find a good replacement for the old Eclipse unit in my dash. My car has the Reus Audio dealer installed SST system and this should control all that.

    Pros:
    - modern features
    - matte finish
    - the mirror function is really cool

    Cons:
    - when screen is up covers up the gauges, but wife's car and she doesn't care
    - non quite as stock looking as something like the Nakamichi CD300, but that unit doesn't have any features and I'm told Nakamichi is now Chinese crap.

Personally I don't like flip up screens in this car, especially because of the as-mentioned gauge issue.

Maybe you could make a different insert that mounted the gauges below the stereo but I would still probably stick with a single din /non flip unit.

I don't really want to change around the dash for a radio though...

I put a clarion pop up screen unit in my car. It has blue tooth, nav and an iPhone wire

If works fine, it looks ok. The colors are blue nog green which bothers me and now after two years I want to get that Ferrari 430 unit that looks great and has the phone connection.

I'm more of a purist style wise and I just don't like the look although the new Ferrari product is a new version of my unit.

I think whatever you get now will be outdated technologically in a few years so keep that in mind as well.

Crap, the other Kenwood's have variable color illumination. This appears only to have blue. I think that kills it for me. I want it to match the rest of the dash.

Check out the Pioneer AVH-X7500BT. Flip up screen but I just close mine once I get rolling. The nice feature, which the Kenwood may have, is that you can change the colors of both the deck and the background on the screen. The green is pretty close to the stock gauge colors.

I've decided there is no way I'm putting a flip up radio in my 355. hiding the gauges is a no-no.

I've found several flip down or detachable units that have good reviews and are affordable on sonic electronix (no affiliation)

Several have gps/dvd/bluetooth/backup camera, etc... with all the bells and whistles.

355 layout on the lower dash is perfect for a flip down.

Here is a link to an example:

Power Acoustik PNX-721 7" LCD Bluetooth Ingenix Car Stereo

Ok I guess I agree. I watched a video of the operation and it would look out of place. All the flip down ones are off brands. Now I'm looking at that $1200 pioneer unit, but it lacks Bluetooth. I didn't think this would be so difficult.

Are you talking about the Pioneer deck I suggested? If so it does have bluetooth. I have my phone linked to it and it works great. Just fyi. I could sure also take a few pics for you if you wanted to see the green.

Can you get one of the oem units and have a Bluetooth module connected to the aux input?

That would give you looks and modern functionality to play iPod and talk on phone.

Also, there was another thread where a guy installed the F430 unit. Looked nice and had modern features.

I was talking about the DEX-P99RS.

It needs a radio. It needs a modern radio. It's the wife's car and she's already complaining that I bought an old car. She loves cars and loves the Ferrari sound but listens to music. The radio can't look 90's.

I can't imagine that any 355 is quiet enough to use a hands free phone, but the nav screen could be very useful to pull out intermittently. I pulled out the "jukebox" radio that came with my car, and I'm very happy with the 360 version. It looks like it belongs and works fine for long freeway drives.

Yeah, and the illumination color is variable. Thousands of color choices. The setup seems a little overwhelming but we'll see.

That unit looks nice. Should look good in the car with the matte finish.

    I don't mind that.

Does it work with the original CD changer?

I doubt it. It does Bluetooth and takes an SD card so no real need for the changer. I haven't bought a CD in years.
