FWIW, recently I spent a day driving a friends very nice TT at high speeds on back roads. He had hurt himself the day before, so I drove the whole day. I found the car to be a very civilized 'daily driver' sort of car, but not at all exciting. It 'might' be as fast as my 355, but it didn't raise any 'I've gotta have one' flags like my first 355 drive did.
The best turbo car coming out of the 90's IMHO considering looks, sound, response, weight, and superb handling is an FD3S Mazda Rx-7. Classic feel and still highly competitive with the right mods.
