Since the F430 and the 360 are aluminum bodied, I don't think any of the fender liners I have seen online would work since they all seem to use magnets including the Griots one.

What do you guys use to not scratch the car? A folded giant moving blanket like Harbor Freight carries?

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

First I clean the surface then I apply a thick bath towel and then I put either the Harbor freight moving cloth or a fender guard from even jegs/Walmart etc

Curious what others use as well

My wife took four of the large Harbor Freight microfiber towels and sewed them together. She put ties on two corners to hold them in place. Works really well and very inexpensive.

I realized that in fact the rear does not have PPF film and I *should* use something for protection. I personally did not use anything when I changed oil, plugs, etc. But I made sure I had a cotton tshirt and I don't wear chains or crap that can scratch the paint as I lean on it. Plus I did a cquartz ceramic protection on it before, so no swirl marks will stay....

    But I should use something...

I like my 2 stage approach..the cotton towel / or a MF will protect from fine scratches and the fender cover will protect from impact (screw driver , wrench falling etc)

I wear a micro fiber clothes so no fender liner needed.
    does this constitute cutting corners?

when I don't have good clothes, I had a $20 comforter put on the fender.

Bought a 10 pack of white bath towels from kohl's so I can drape them where needed, white so I can be sure everything is clean

Seriously, if I was doing extended work or detaining I used one of those huge blue furniture mover pads. For shorter forays into the engine compartment I just used regular fender cover pads.

For truly serious work I used this: Note the blue furniture pad for extra protection. This thing is adjustable in terms of the depth you can get into the engine compartment. It also makes cleaning the inside of the engine cover glass a snap.

Not that expensive but a pain to store when not in use,

    Ray

I'm 6'6" tall so I tend to rest my knee against the tyre and lean over without touching the body.
I actually have an original set of Ferrari workshop liners which are felt lined red vinyl, but I've used them probably once because they're a bit fiddly

@Ray Smith I was thinking of getting one of those, does it get any closer to the engine height-wise?

It seems reaching the engine while laying on it would be a bit of a stretch

I clean the surface and then wrap it with blue crash wrap ( same stuff junk yards use on broken windows to keep rain out of high end cars) then follow with any off the shelf thick fender guards

I have these and they're great (Note the model of the 360 on the home page...not mine though). The website looks like it was designed in the mid 1990s but it's legitimate and a lot of dealerships use these
