I bought Griot's engine cleaner set, works well to clean dusty areas and give luster to rubber. For soiled engine bits with grime, I spray electrical cleaner and scrub

I use P21. That German made rim cleaner in a spray bottle. A great cleaner but will not etch etc. I use my garden hose. With one of those twist brass type ends. Open it just enough for a very fine mist. Mist the engine and anywhere you want to clean. Spray on the P21 and use a fine paint brush to scrub. Keep the areas moist as you move around. Rinse well when done. The best way I have found to do a very good job and not damage any finishes etc.

+1 but if I did I would use a damp cloth dipped in mildy soapy water to clean it and wait for the 30K service to get it as clean as Chris's car :D

    +1!! :D:D
I will wait till I remove the engine for major service to detail/clean it nicely. Till then, I have stopped cleaning the engine. Well, havent done so now since late last year when I decided to put off major till 2008. :):)

Yep yep. ;);) I have the COMPLETE service history with my car from day dot. ALOT of money spent on this car over the years man, let me tell you!:eek: I have been lucky so far I think (touch wood). I even have a photocopy of the cheque used to pay for my 348. 92,000 Pounds back on the 12/1991.
Anywho......car did get cam belts every 3 years regardless of mileage. Been done that way since new. Last time belt was done in January 2004. I bought car in August 2005 and it had done around 1000km on new belt at the time and the cam belt would have 5000km done since major in Jan 2004. So I do not think that its worth doing because I will probably only drive it another 2000km till next year when I decide to do it. Belt should last at least 5 years and 7000km I reckon. Hopefully waterpump and tensioners will hold up too. :):)

Since I have the engine out of my car at the moment, I cleaned it with simple green sprayed on, let sit for 10 minutes, then attack with a power washer. Pics are here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157854 You'd need to be real careful to avoid direct spray on electrical connections.

I usually don't detail engines but when I lift the hood on my F355 it seems like the right thing to do.Thanks for the input.

I also use Silicone. I think that works very well. Also the engine foams are great I think. And for the really hard places it is simple green to the rescue.
