My vote would go to the Alfa-Romeo Tipo 159 <<Alfetta>>, which I've had the privilege of hearing in person twice. Runner-up would be the 1966 Ferrari 312. Bog-slow, but gorgeous sounding!
I agree, it was great to here the V10's again. If only the sound quality was better on the MS V10 video we would be able to hear it better. V8 sounded dull and flat in comparison.
My guess would be that a lot of the people saying V10 are younger and just don't have the experience with the sound of the V12's considering the last one raced in 1995. I would be willing to bet just about anyone 30 and over would say V12.
I still think the BRM V12 and Matra V12 sound great. The old F1 312 Ferrari Boxer and F1 Alfa Boxer also sounded amazing. I have heard both old and new in person at F1 races and vintage races. The wildest sounding F1 motor was the V16 BRM from the 1950's. It has a high pitch evil sound to it. I think it was trying to destroy itself. I love Alfa's, but the 158 and 159 are not as nice sounding as a V12. The new F1 cars rev high and have a short exaust so the sound is crisp but not as good in my opinion. Loud is not always better. you can add Me to the list of the 412 V12 fans!. As far as I'm concerned it was the last of the proper engines, the last hurrah of a time gone by!. My heart sank a little at the end of the '95 season! (and yes, I am over 30!)
That too. You need not go deaf listening to an overgrown motorcycle engine to appreciate F1 motors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYqvcXwU510&feature=related
Yeah, 1995 (412 T2) was the last year that F1 cars sounded at their best. They new ones sound good, but not quite as good as then.
V12s were not standardized like the V10s were. Only a few teams ran them, thus I think the V10s were synonymous with the sport because every car ran them for a decade...
Don't be an ass. Of course I would rather see V8s, V10s and V12s all mixing it up on the same track but let's face it the wailing V10 that they ran for a decade (spec or not) is more synonymous with F1 than the sound of the V12s that only a few different teams ran at sporadic times (other than Ferrari) in the history of the sport.
Don't be a fool: Sentience was not created in 1996. The v10 spec rule was instituted because Ferrari and Honda were working on next-gen v12s that would have threatened the status quo.
Exactly. Everyone ran the V10 because they had to. I WISH they had the freedom they did years back. I am not looking forward to the 4 bangers at all....
Yes, I am not a fan. I know they can make big power with boost, but they just will not have that "sound". F1 is the top notch of racing, and to me they should not be limited like they are now. I'd love to see the V12's be allowed again.
They won't make big power, they'll make reliable pseudo-green cheap quiet power. Nothing to do with green, everything to do with provincial politics and protectionism.
Who said it is? ...This thread is "What do you think is the best sounding F1 car", not 'what did you hear when your eyes opened'.
Legitimate question: Are you mentally handicapped? I stated early on in the thread that the V12 Ferrari 412T2 was my favorite sounding F1 car and I was simply saying that the sport lost the wail that was synonymous with it when the V10s were scrapped in favor of the V8s. So, to sum up since you are waaaaayyy slow, I stated what I thought was the best sounding F1 car and I was just making side conversation based on a link from another poster when I stated how much worse the current V8s sound than the V10s of the past and that F1 lost the sound that was synonymous with it. In response to me, the thread stater suggested that it was the V12 sound that was synonymous with the sport not the V10, and I stated otherwise, citing why I thought so. That's when you came in and missed the whole point. Do you understand now? I mean...WOW.
