Ok I really cannot stand it anymore, I have to vent a little bit. This guy is now first in the GP standing but does he have to rub it in that he won 4 gps? I hate when he shows how many GP he won this season. Do you think he is going to win this year Championship? Is he really that good or is just the car? Sorry for the rant.
I say Kimi is the better driver, it's just his equipment that gives up on him. That was very clear last year. This year FA has won, but I don't see him blowing people out of the water like Kimi did the 2 races before today. Kimi led ALL laps in both of those races, that's over 160+ consecutive laps. The commentators today said that only Senna, Mansell, and Ascari were the only others to lead all laps in 2 consecutive races (I think there was one more, but I'm not sure). FA has a very good car, especially when it comes to launches. The four fingers was arrogant imo, especially since he did to to the camera so we all see. I prefer the fists that MS does.
What's the difference? People celebrate in thier own ways. I'd be pretty excited if i were leading the championship at his age and won four races.
Precisely. Michael does the jump on the podium. That's his trademark. I remember several years ago a former president of Italy compared Michael to a Nazi soldier from WW2 having no respect for the Italian anthem, just because Michael was happily "conducting" an invisible orchestra. The press cleared Michael and came down hard on the president, but the damage was done and Michael never "conducted" again, but quietly stands when the Italian anthem is played. All of this criticsm is nonsense. Each driver has his own style to celebrate. Aside from that: How good is Alonso? Well he is the youngest winner of a GP in history and if he clinches the title he'll be the youngest WC ever. Kimi is probably better right now, but also older and more experienced. Will Alonso win the title this year? I sure hope so. And with a 32 points lead and a not so bullet proof Mc Laren/Kimi his chances are certainly there.
I understand that he should be happy, but imo is too arrogant. Again this is my opinion. The difference imo is how many finger should have MS risen last year? MS does the fist and the jump but it is done after that. While the press takes the pictures he is normal or hugging the scuderia's team. About the orchestra I remember that accident too.
Alonso is pretty normal when talking to the press and team as well. Michael has that goofy "Admiral's" hat with the seven white stripes. You could consider that as arrogance to rub in to the world how many titles he has won. Like anybody wouldn't know that already. However the fact that some folks don't like Alonso's finger count, I wouldn't be surprised if some of his "handlers" will tell him to stop doing that. After all we live in the PC and PR times. Sadly.
The only thing i would agree with is today's race, i'd not be so smug if i won only because the car in front broke.
Excuse me but we can say what we want here pal. The criticism isnt nonsense. Its an opinion equal if not superior to your own rants .
EXACTLY! Well said. The race was handed to the NO CLASS WE WON team today who simply cant just say thanks and move on. The chest thumping and hand raising look and are cheap. I hope Fredo never sets foot in Maranello as a driver.
Alonso knows in his heart that he did not win the race due to a better car and driver, but rather a mistake on Kimis part. That doesnt bode well for the championship - if Kimi can hold it together and win alot more races (reliably) and if Fernando has some trouble, it would be very easy for Kimi to pull out a win. Since Montoya is sucking so bad, maybe Ron Dennis should order him to take out Fernando in the beginning and let Kimi catch up on points Kimis pace this year (in the past few races) has been the equal of Michaels pace last year.
Do not forget that the car did not break this time becuse it was faulty. It did break because Kimi did too many mistakes with several hard breakings leaving that tire square. The vibrations from that squre tire were the cause of the breakage. So Kimi has a big part of responsability in this DNF! He could have eased on the car and had finished with some points. I think Alonso has what it takes to be WC. Regarding Kimi, I am sure he also has the ability to be WC, but so far Alonso has showed more towards it than Kimi, do not forget that! - Julio.
I don't totally agree with that only because the Mclaren was not as reliable in the beginging of the year as it is now. Kimi has been fast all year and now that he's finishing he's finishing at the front. I don't think today was a mistake, with so few laps to go you have to go for the win, he would have lost too many positions and might not have even gotten any points if he had stopped. It seemed worth the gamble. As far as he braking too hard he might have been but i saw a few cars locking up in the race.
More than one car did lock up his wheels, yes, Alonso included. But Kimi did it 3 times and 3 quite long lockups, that creates large flat surfaces in the tires, not just one flat surface. He was also in a softer Michelin compound than Alonso, and others. That most of the teams use Michelin does not mean that all choose the same compound for the race, some people seem to forget that part of the tire choice. Regarding what Alonso has demonstrated, I was not refering to just this season. Alonso has been showing it since he started at Minardi, but specially since he is at Renault. Kimi has been very unconsistent all the way in his F1 career so far. Meanwhile Alonso has been pretty consistent on going little by little, finishing races, getting points and working good with whaterver he had. Kimi does not seem to score well unlees he has the right material all around. I agree that Kimi and a good car and reliable is probably the fastest driver in F1 right now, and a combo hard to beat, but he has weekneses, he is not the coldest head at the races (despite his nickname), he has shown that today. MS/Ferrari would had pitted or eased on the accelerator to score points. - Julio.
BTW I think Alonso is WC material, and not just for this year. However I also admit he has a 'big mouth' at times, but after all he is pretty much still a teenager and only 3 real seasons at F1. Regarding the 4 fingers, that was just a celebration. You have to think that these guys have a lot of fans, and this kind of show off in front of the camera at the end of a race is what the fans wants to see. Nothing offensive, I do not think he was trying to say anything to his rivals. He has not that kind of actitud towards other drivers, he is pretty humble when it comes to that, at least it does when it speaks in Spanish. - Julio.
I'm hearing--and this is strictly unsubstantiated and unreliable rumor, that Rubens and J.P. Montoya will be teamed together, perhaps at Williams, while Fernando and either Fisichella or Trulli are the next team driving for the Scuderia. All of this is subsequent to Michael's retirement, which might come sooner than the contract extension he recently signed.
I don't really have a problem seing him pointing his 4 fingers for 4 GP wins. I think he was acting a bit strange right after the race. Caressing Flavio, standing on the car and acting like if it was his best F1 victory ever. But he is young. What he did doesn't bother me. Maybe I would have done the same.
Yeah, they did seem a bit happy that they won because the car in front broke. Personally I would think that would mean a more somber mood...what do i know.
I also grow tired of his four finger nonsense. To each his own I suppose. What really raised an eyebrow for me was the way he was going on about the car being "perfect" in the post-race press conference. He said it multiple times. Perfect? If it was perfect, why is it that he only won because the driver in front had a mechanical failure on the very last lap? He said the car was perfect at the beginning of the season after his consecutive victories, leading from start to finish. That's an appropriate use of the word. But certainly not for the last race.
In an interview to the Spanish TV he was asked how come he seemed happier this time that the provious times when he had dominated the race. Alonso, said that he was happier because this has been the first time that he had won a GP where he wasn't dominating this year and were he had to work it out harder to be there in a position to catch it. That is why he was happier and he showed it, so what? Unlike many think, he did what he had to to achive the victory at that race. When he realized that there was a posibility to catch Kimi, he pusshed really hard to catch him, and that was not in the last 4 laps! As a remainder Alonso did set the fastest lap in the race too. That push put pressure on Kimi, and it finally lead him to the failure. If Alonso would had settled for 2nd when he was 14 seconds behind, then Kimi probably would had finish the race 1st, not without problems. So yes Alonso found a victory because the car ahead crashed, but you have to be there at 2nd to be 1st when that did happen. And that wasn't easy either when he started down the grid and got hit by the s****d RS. I do not really get how some people think that if you aren't 1st from beginning till the end you have done nothing!!! -Julio.
Hmm. Very interesting. I'd think Michael drives in 2006 for the Scuderia, but I'm not so sure about Rubens anymore. At any rate: The silly season is in full swing!
I don't like the finger waiving; I can count Fernando thank you very much. Kimi was kicking his butt yesterday and at Imola. Just proves that it is better to be lucky than to be good. FA needs to be more humble-and worried that if the McLaren gets reliable he'll be Kimi's biatch the rest of the seaon. As of right now, I take Kimi over Fred if I had to chose a new driver for Ferrari. I think Kimi is faster.
Maybe MS would have done if different at this stage of his career but i doubt that he would have done so at this same stage that Kimi is at. Hindsight being 20/20 he should have pitted but as i said before if the car had held up, it would have been no issuse and he'd have been hero
