Being one of the older guys registered here on F-Chat, I'm quite sad to see how things have deteriorated in the past few month. I remember back in 2001 when I first registered on F-Chat, this was a pretty good place to gain good info about Ferraris. Later on, I had the pleasure of meeting a few good friends here and realized how much fun we had doing runs and parties, and we had a lot in common. Almost overnight, the New York Tri-State Region became a great part of my tight social life. Everyday, I cannot wait to turn on my computer and to see what's going on. Every night, I cannot sleep until I finish reading every new posts in this section. I always loved all the great pics we took, the bad a$$ videos Bradley put together and off course the many embarrassing photos we had together.

But now days, every time I log onto F-Chat, I always find myself wondering what fight is going on this week. When I got to parties, I find half of the guys missing b/c bad feelings towards the other half.

So how can we make this place better? I would ask that:

    a) please KINDLY state the area that needd improvement
    AND
    b) state how would you recommend to improve the situation.

Let's do this as mature adults; if you have no recommendation then refrain from commenting until you have one.

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM OK; BUT PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ANY INSTIGATING REMARKS.

(also no comments like Muhahahas, That's Good, etc.)

    1) Let's make our points without direct insults and expletives;
    2) Whenever anything is too personal and should not be posted in public, PM!!!
    3) Everyone lighten up. Most people have a good sense of humor, but sometimes we get worked up over things a bit much;
    4) Follow the rules (see sticky above).
    Thanks

    Here's my point of view:

    - Lead by example.

    - Debate but don't fight.

    - Apply yourself evenly, fairly.

    - Answer in complete sentences.

    - Remember, it's just the Internet!

post lots of pictures, tell lots of stories? = )

as one of the people who doesn't own a Ferrari, i frequented the section a lot in the past to live the high rollers' life vicariously as well as to learn more about the cars.

i think the ny-ts area remains a bit stigmatized (resulting in fewer posts from active members), as a result of all of the skirmishes/defectures that occurred. recreating what made it fun to visit in the first place (John: your references to pics, runs, parties, etc.) might help. though i suppose much of this may have moved to the insidetheec venue, which doesn't help us here.

    John,

You know me, so I will say it how I see it, bluntly.

You got 74 views on your post, but just 3 replies from different users. Why?
Lots of reading, but no input. Why?
Because, most of people, who ONCE MADE Fchat NYTS so fun and interesting, rarely contribute here. Out of the rest that still do, most probably do not have real suggestions on how to make it better, yes as Sam's suggestion, you can make this place more trouble-free, but not necessarily better.

If I am not mistaken, the direction of this board now, is to get more members and be more active, which I certainly understand, for a site like this, its the user numbers and unique hits that counts.
However, IMO, a forum is nothing without CHARACTER, quantity is nothing without quality. You can have tons of members and become www.off-topic.net, but will it be a good interesting site that you would call home? Probably not.
The core EC guys made this board what it used to be. people out there were looking us up because of who we were and what we did. I had 2 occations that I was on some random car forums where pictures of my F355 and Brad's 360 was posted, and there were users replying "hey! that's EC from Ferrarichat!" (was gonna throw in a reply "yo zEn doNt b cOnfuSe eC wiT fcHat" but did not ) ... You get the picture. Now, when that presence is gone, this place is no longer the same. Simply make some rules to restore order is good, but not going to bring back the old NYTS, getting new members is great, but it will not be the same.

Anyway, do not mean to bore you, but since you asked, I just shared what I think of the NYTS now. As of the 2nd part of question on how to make it better? I do not really know, the suggestion I have, as I always said, allow image link. I would have posted alot more pictures if there is no such a "attachment only with file size limit".

Lastly, as your good friend, I want to say, be who you are, and do what you enjoy doing. Continue doing what we used to do, we drive, we dine, we meet, we club and we party, don't put the burden on your shoulder and take it as own responsibility to make this board great and get stressed while doing so.

    Just my sincere $0.02.
I will post less here from now on, I think that will be a positive contribution to NYTS since there is going to be less trouble :D

Peace. And all love for you John.

I think we are back on track to making the Tri-state whole again.
I too love to read the days posts and love when we poke fun at each other.
I think the protagonists amongst us are cooling down and this is for the better.

I think there are two areas that we need to bolster....
    1) Let's get back into the group runs again! when was the last time we had a run to pick up JC's car at CC ???? Heck, these are Ferrari. They are always in the shop :p Amble opportunity for impromptu runs.

    2) Too many Ferrari are being turned in for such cars a Porsche & Maserattis. With those replacements not requiring as much repair time as ferrari, there's less opportunity for runs to get our cars out of the repair shop ;)

FChat is where it's at. That's why everyone comes back & contributes. It's a great place.
or is that "A nice little place" lol

    Good post.

What I find here in Tri State is there is a smal click of insiders that rule this section, and anyone else is just around the edge. I read the posts, don't quite understand the point of some of them. Spend most of my time in the Technical and Classic sections, things are more to the point there. Things degrade here real fast at times.

    My $.02.

I'm located nearby, on the "Island of Staten". 1984 308, owned it for awhile, do a lot of my own work, everything else Frank from Classic handles. For those of you that know his place, who misses Serio Sartor besides me? I work downtown, near the big hole in the ground the arabs made.

Thinking about West Point this Sunday, anyone going? Also, there is supposed to be the 1st annual NYC concours this September in Central Park, anyone know about it?

Thanks for your input Phil...we look forward to hearing more from folks like yourself that peruse, but abstain from posting.

What's going on at West Point this Sunday? I'm thinking of organizing an Early Run up to Bear Mountain and WP is certainly on the way.

We do know about the Central Park Concours and the NYTS should be well represented. It better be!!

while i can respect that you don't want "ec" confused with ferrarichat, all the "ec" members did originally meet on f-chat, which in essence, spawned the "ec." so it's not necessarily incorrect for the users to say "EC from f-chat." f-chat never disowned the "ec," so it's interesting how there would be any resentment towards mentioning the two together.

More runs. More parties. More pictures.

Emphasis on the third, because I still party plenty with you guys, but the difference is that a lot of you have become true friends, not just 'those guys I know from the Internet', so the need to post pics of everything has lessened a bit.

But no reason not to revive things!

And I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am friends with people, not clubs. I left that behind when I graduated from college. Fchat/east coast/exclusive colony/whatever----those are all bull$h!t labels. I don't care which website you frequent and which clique you associate yourself with---I don't pick and choose my friends based on that, and I certainly don't preclude making new friends because of that.

    Play on.

Users can say whatever they want, because they do not know better.
An individual has the rights to be whatever they want to be and what they want to be seen as. No need to mix two different things together.
If you are NYTS of Fchat, be proud of that, why feel the need to toss the term EC around, right?

Please keep this on topic. I posted this thread to see how we can improve the NY Tri State Region of Ferrari Chat (which at one time we were trying to compete with the West Coast for post count and called ourselve the East Coast - hence the abbrev. EC).

If you want to debate about the name of EC, please kindly start a different thread. I'm not interested to turn thread this into another debate...especially out of all things - the name.

I don't pledge my allegiance to any forum or site in particular. the main and only reason i'm here on f-chat is because i love ferraris. that was also the main reason i was on insidetheec for a while.

with your logic, if you are "ec," be proud of that -- there's no need to consider correcting the user (who, as you pointed out, has the right to say whatever he/she wants), nor should you feel the need to toss around either of the terms nyts/fchat/"ec." but, as you did mention, you did feel the need to correct the user with "'yo zEn doNt b cOnfuSe eC wiT fcHat.'"

i do think, for one, that this forum would be improved if we were more open and collaborative -- and focused all of the posting efforts on Ferrari-related things, instead of on who belongs to what site, why one site may be better than the other, etc, etc.

John, in all honesty, it will probably never be the same "group" as it was. That was in the past and between many people, those bridges are burned. Simply put, only a select few people get along and those people are the ones that have taken this whole "community" thing way too far. Those select few I have noticed have also become two-faced and frankly I, as well as many, really do not want to have to deal with people that still act like they are in high school. Yes, it WAS fun to joke around and say, "Man Up Zen" or "Fwerff" (however it is spelled), but it was taken too far and right before everyone left, the terminology became more intense with the use of terms like, "Ec 4 Life" and "HNIC" putting a negative light onto this site. Come on, realistically, if I was new to the site and saw all the bashing that was going on, I would think that people on here were all ignorant and immature.

    Just my two cents.

My suggestion is that everyone should try to get out more, the pictures and videos will come naturally. Dont not go on a run because the rest of the group isn't going, do what we used to do, just show up and stick it out. You'll have fun meeting new friends vs just hanging out with the same guys everyday. It was the diversity of the group and never knowing which new guy was going to show up that day that made the runs fun.

NO one asked you or ANYONE to pledge allegiance.

I do not understand your logic.
I do not see how feeling the need to correct someone has conflict with being proud.

    I agree 100%.
Unfortunately, if you really take a look around, this forum is really mostly OT, in another words not really Ferrari related.
