It's been a while this 355 F1 is on ebay.

It looks poorly maintained according to the interior's condition, I hate the wheels and don't like the tinted windows. However it's a yellow F1 that I would be interested in.
Do you think it would make sense to make an offer at 40 or 42K which lets me approx. 20K to refresh the car by myself, and tune it to my wishes ?

Or... will the car be in such a bad condition that it won't even drive the 450 miles from its current location to my place !?

The seller is a good guy. Dont see what you see in the interior. ask for records and do ppi. he has original where and tint can be removed.

if valves and headers have been done then is a great buy especially for the year

Not sure I would trust the speedo on this one, that interior looks very worn for 30000miles, the drivers seat is hammered.

But, once again this can be fixed, so depending on the mechanical history this could be a good buy. That interior is gonna suck up some cash though, the airbag cover needs redoing, all the plastics need to be sent to "sticky no more" and the leather is going to need at least a redye if not a re-trim.

It would be a great driver as is though, rack em miles up, that's what they are made for! :)

Have you seen this vehicle? Regardless, have a PPI done which should highlight the key areas of concern and $$. I'm sure the members in the NJ region can recommend someone.

Removing that dark tint is not an easy job either. My guess is 50,000 clicks on it. There are many better 355s out there. I would leave this one alone.

Hi, well I'm just figuring out. I don't have the budget right now anyway, still selling my track P car and parts, then I'll take a decision.
Please let us know if you have info and/or buy the car, just curious.

I agree the car looks to get more than 30K miles; hard to believe it's so much worn inside. Or maybe the owner had a crazy dog jumping in the car and scratching the interior everyday...

Buying this kind of car can be interesting if the engine and gearbox are in good condition, since I would prepare it slowly, replacing seats, dashboard and door panels.

Good thing the stock wheels are included, the ones on it right now (in combination with the window tints) make it look like a drug dealer's car. :p Stick the original wheels on it, remove or reduce the tints, and as you say the main cost after purchase is going to be in the interior restoration...

If it's mechanically sound and you're after a yellow F1, then why not? :D The interior wouldn't put me off, but it would modulate my offer. Although, that's easy to say when I'm not yet in a position to buy a Ferrari of my own - it might look different when you're on the cusp of actually doing it.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I know the PPI is played over and over like a broken record here. I'm proof that the $500 PPI is VERY cheap insurance compared to the possible landmines after the purchase. I ended up paying for PPI's on two cars before I found the right one, which had been serviced by Eugenio and was above reproach. Both guys I paid to do the PPI's ended up being great resources and are still available to me as technical consultants. Money well spent!

I live 60 miles away from this one and i thought about paying a visit to check her out. The dealership add says " Switchcars.com " and I didn't go yet because I am afraid i would switch my lowly but perfect 348 for that. Honestly, I would be very careful about this car if I was you, that has to be a reason why nobody bought her for the last 6 months. Also, every time they re-list her the deal keep getting better and better, in last one, besides reducing the price of 3K, they add the original rims on the deal. What really scares me, besides headers and valve guides, is the semi automatic transmission hardware. The interior is trashed and wornd out like a 100K miles car, i am thinking "perhaps odometer roll back ?", who knows ! The 46K$ would soon become 70$K and for what ? With that money you could buy a real good one ! This is just the point of view of a guy that can never make up his mind :)

Your right. This car is a pile of crap. For the guy above who said that the interior would not bother him......Well if you are ever in the position to buy a Ferrari and that interior dosnt bother you, then you had better bring your wife with you when you do decide to buy one. That way she wont blame you later when youve spent another 50k to fix up the POS you just bought. :)

If you are looking for a Berlinetta 355 , for less than 10k more than this car, you can have mine. And, mine is completly serviced and ready to go.
If you want a yellow F1 car, there is none cleaner and more fairly priced than 285ferrari's car.
    Check ferrariads for both. :)

From the pictures, it didn't look like it was a deal-breaker if the mechanicals were in order but, as I said, it would modulate my offer on the car. We've seen other F-Chatters do interior restorations and the end-results have been fantastic... you just factor that price on top of the purchase price in your mind.

The PPI (which should be a given by now) would hopefully reveal anything undesirable in the condition of the mechanicals and if that inspection comes back looking good from a mechanical perspective then the interior aesthetics wouldn't make me immediately walk away. It'd just be a negotiation point for the purchase price.

As for the fiancée... she knows what she's marrying into. I've told her that Ferraris are an expensive passion. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.
