Can someone explain what Berlinetta designates? I thought that "Berlinetta" designated the entry level V8 line up. The 911 encompasses the carrera and the TT lineups like the most recent 993, 996 and the 997. Isn't the Berlinetta likewise an umbrella name for the ......355, 360 and 430? If thats's so, then why do people refer to the 599 (a V12) as the latest Berlinetta? I've also heard people refer to a Dino Berlinetta. Can any ferrari history buff explain this and tell me where the term came from.

"Berlinetta" is the Italian diminutive form of "Berlina" and means something like "small sedan". Ferrari distinguishes between "Berlinetta" and "Coupé". All Ferrari "Berlinetta" are two seaters with closed cockpit.

As in "f355 berlinetta," which means its a coupe rather than a spider of GTS.

Means a two door hardtop, is the general word for any car that fits into this specifications, it doesn't belong to Ferrari alone. In spanish the word is the same, Berlina.
