Variously - zero, nada, nothing, zip, squat, zilch etc etc.
It really is a unit of 10 cubic centimeters as the 360 in total refers to an engine size of 3,600 cubic centimeters or 3.6 liters, as best as I can tell

The 360, 550, 575, etc., all refer to displacement in cubic centimeters. 3.6 liters is the same as 3,600 cubic centimeters.

I always thought they should have followed tradition and named it 368. I get why they changed the 355 but why break with tradition on the 360 and up?

ya i would agree, as far as i know it means nothing, you just got to throw a 0 in there partly because its a 3.6, nothing more and nothing less and because who would want a ferrari 36? haha.

    In the Ferrari tradition those numbers used to show the displacement in cubic centimeters of 1 cylinder (i.e. 166 x 12 = 2,000 cc; 250 x 12 = 3,000 cc; 400 x 12 = 4,800 cc)
Today this holds true on and off, as with my 456 it is true (456 x 12 = 5,472 cc), but it is obviously not true with the 550 and the likes.
Some other times the first 2 numbers show the displacement of the engine in deciliters (like the Germans do) while the following number shows the number of cylinders (246; 328; 348).
More recently the numbers show the displacement of the engine and that is it (550; 599) and then you have the 612.....showing the displacement and the number of cylinders !!
All in all it is very Italian and it keeps people guessing !!

FWIW, I had understood that the second "5" in the 355 designation indicated 5 valves per cylinder. Do I have that right?

The last digit (i.e., '0' in 360) indicates the "wow" factor of the car (0 to 9 scale, 0 being the best, of course). Then of course you have the 355, 348, etc.

Ferrari seems to like 3 significant figures. Besides, do you really want to say, "I drive a 36 modena." Sounds like the year, not the model.

    Hey guys,
Did you know that in Australia thanks to our great tax system ,
The badge numbers on Ferraris happen to correspond with the thousands of dollars they cost us to buy.

When I get asked that stupid first question by an admirer, and I cant avoid the subject, I tell them the price tag is still on the back.
